Except he wasn't really an informant. FTA: "Our undercover detectives felt he may have had some information that would be useful, so they decided to try to work with him," Patten said. "It very quickly turned out that it wasn't working and it also turned out he was fleeing the area. We took the appropriate steps to remedy the situation."

Of course most people won't actually read the article, so based on the headline... he's screwed.

Any time there's a drug arrest or investigation, undercover detectives have a strict protocol in place and try to develop some of those people as suitable informants," he said yesterday. "Sometimes it doesn't work out as well as you hope."

Ya, sometimes it doesn't work out as well as you hope he says.  Tell that to the parents of these two girls.

This week, Shelley Hilliard, a 19-year-old woman from Detroit, was killed after working as a police informant. On October 20, Hilliard was arrested for a small amount of marijuana. The police offered her a way out: She could set up a drug deal. She called a drug dealer and said she had someone who wanted to buy $335 of cocaine and marijuana. When the dealer showed up he was arrested. The dealer was released, and three days later Hilliard was found dead in the streets. The dealer has been charged with murder.

Hilliard tragic death brings back memories of Rachel Hoffman, the 23-year-old, Florida State graduate from Tallahassee who also worked as an informant after she was busted with a small amount of marijuana and Ecstasy. Hoffman was sent alone on a "buy and bust" and was given $13,000 to buy Ecstasy, cocaine and a gun. The men shot Hoffman five times, stole her car and credit card, and dumped her body into a ditch.

We don't need drugs in this country.

"Feeling good" and "human delight" are forbidden.

Return to your productivity station at once, citizen.

"[D]etectives learned Beamud was ready to move south and had moving trucks at his home."

Great way to be sneaky, d00d.

He should have stuffed a few necessary things in a backpack and taken Greyhound, without telling anybody who might snitch on him.

Like I keep saying, prisons are full of stupid people.

That's some mighty sloppy police work there, Lou.

Come on, Chief, the last thing we need around here is some kind of Witch Hunt.
