Good for you while you sit in your apartment and let the city services take care of all the snow and mess. If you lived where I am you'd be dead by morning.

Just got Francona's book.  Debating reading it as the snow falls.  Need to buy a few things this am.  Have gas for the genny, booze in the cabinet and food in the pantry.  So nothing new.  Need to have the kids bring in some fire wood.  Before it hits, I will need to move the 4X4 to the bottom of the driveway.  I anticipate a quiet day or two.  School is already cancelled with nary a flake.

Not stressing at all.  Nor'Easters, that would be not summer.

You should get a reward for not behaving stupidly during severe weather events. While emergency services are risking life and limb because some idiots think, "Oh, I don't really need to prepare. I'm used to a little snow."

I moved to the NYC area from Boston. We've had some double digit snowfalls down here in that time and the response across the area has been disappointingly just like the response up in Boston. Plows, sand, salt, people bundling up, no free days off from work.

The problem with the interior of NYC is that there's nowhere to put the snow.

I used to do severe weather planning and management at my job.  No one is coming for me, I am reasonable and prepared, like a responsible person would be.  I have backups for heat, power, cooking  and food.

Not a Prepper, this just it ain't my first rodeo. I do keep a hurricane box for my family. Rode out more than one hurricane and two floods.  Most recently Sandy and the follow up Nor'easter.

And thank you for the compliment.

Meh, snow. Big shiat. So I need to drive the Honda (front wheel drive) and not the Merc (4d hot rod).
My refrig is full. The ex has the generator with 3 days of fuel and food for a month, my apartment rarely goes dark.
Welcome to winter in the North East US. How long have you lived here? Is any long time resident really taken by surprise by weather?
I also have outerwear that makes it a breeze to walk the 1/4 mile to stores and main road. Whatevs.....
Off to work now for me!

We are expecting 6 inches here tonight, and another foot or so over the next week on top of what we already have. I haven't seen the lawn since late November.

Bring it on.

Hooray for working for a German owned company! Right in the middle of the storm's path, but we're open until noon today. So not only did I have to give up my nice parking spot on the side of the street, but I get to drive home on Route 2 in the worst of the storm! Yay!

Not at all, it is mostly a Meh event.  But then again we expect this stuff.  Oh and 50 years of just being here.  Just a few extra cans, a full fridge and pantry, some gas and a generator makes for a non event.

I have happily and easily ridden out 1.5 weeks of no services and been comfortable.  And have helped my retired neighbors. I am not an apartment dweller, nor do I have anything but a modest home.

Oh and board games, Lot's of board games. And cards and books.

People are ridiculous around here...

"I might be snowed in for 12 hours?!? BUY EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!"

These people should be embarrassed to call themselves New Englanders.

Got my trusty shovel, eight Murphy's, a bottle of Canadian Club, going to make some fish chowder later... I'm good. I love being snowed in.

Don't give a shiat about baseball, but:

Let's Go, Bruins!!!

Seth'n'Spectrum: I don't think I could deal with having to shovel snow as part of my morning regimen.

Maybe I'm weird, but I love shoveling snow... I make the circuit around the neighborhood; shoveling out my elderly neighbors and the lady next door with Cirrhosis and a host of other health problems. It's a good work out.

I usually get a fire going in the backyard and play a few rounds of snow bocce ball, as well... Though, it might be a bit breezy for that with this storm if the weather folks are to be believed.

This is my first big snowstorm while living in Boston. I'm kind of looking forward to seeing how the city handles it. A few years ago, we got 3 feet in Baltimore, and it completely shut down the city for about a week. (It didn't help that we got another 2.5 feet like 5 days later.)

Fear_and_Loathing: Well, the Providence Bruins!

I usually get to more P-Bruins' games in a season than the boys up in Boston... It's cheaper and closer to home.

But the Boston Bruins are where it's at. Besides all of Providence's talent in now playing in Boston thanks to early season injuries...

I think the tonight's game against Portland has been cancelled.
