Well in my opinion; slingshot. Ammo is easy to find. Easy to aim. Easy to carry. Slow fire rate but zombies tend to be slow.

Next would be crossbow for similar reasons. I think spear or kukri would follow up soon thereafter.

But the best way to fight a horde is to crossarm your group to shore up deficiencies in weapons. There's no such thing as a perfect weapon.

God, this farking show sucks it so bad now. It's not an urban legend if the farking zombies don't exist, it's a plot point in a fictional storyline.

If zombies were real the only way to actually disable them would be to destroy the brain stem or the spinal column above the arms, a simple head shot would not be enough.

So how did Merle cut his hand off and free himself? Obviously if he could have gotten hold of a tool that could cut through bone, he could have simply cut the handcuffs off, so that couldn't have been what happened. Did he just strain against the cuffs until the metal cut through?

They ran out of worthwhile myths after a few seasons. Now it's mostly the B-team finding excuses to blow shiat up. It's entertaining in small doses, but nowhere near the show it used to be.

"Stronger" is a scientifically imprecise word in this regard. Bone can hold a lot of weight ounce for ounce but that doesn't mean it's harder to cut.

Which brings up another question (yes, fanboys I have MORE QUESTIONS! Come at me, nerds!), vis a vis the "no guns" rule: why does gunfire or similar noise ATTRACT the zombies? Do they lack even the basic self-preservation instinct that tells an animal to run from potential danger? Yes, in hordes they're unstoppable badasses, but alone they're so easily defeated it's pathetic, yet their instincts don't tell them to run when a "predator" (i.e., a human with a gun) is around and they don't have a horde to back them up.

If you cut at a joint, you only have to deal with skin, muscle, tendens, ligaments and cartilage.  Also, bone may have properties that make it stronger then steel, but I seriously doubt it's HARDER than steel, and that's the property you're concerned with when cutting.

Richard C Stanford: Which would be better in a zombie apocalypse: a modern M16 variant or an AK-47?

M16.  Consensus seems to be you don't need a lot of power for zombies, just accuracy, and the lesser recoil would make it easier to shoot than the AK-47.  Although the M16 needs more care and cleaning, and the AK-47 performs well under adverse conditions, so there is that.  Maybe the AK-74, combining the best qualities of both.

I'd probably pick a suppressed Ruger 10/22 carbine, if I could find one somewhere (the suppressor being the hard-to find part).  Accurate, reliable, ammo is common and lightweight, and a .22LR would be enough to rattle their brains

The desire to feed (even though they don't need food) outweighs self preservation.  The part of their brains that dictates safety is basically gone at that point.

Noise = potential food.  And...keep watching...you'll see something cool happen at the end of the second season regarding noise attracting zombies.

There was a toolbox next to where he was left...and a hacksaw in the toolbox.  They showed it and left the door open to him escaping.  I thought it was kind of like the end of Mad Max "The chain in those handcuffs is high-tensile steel. It'd take you ten minutes to hack through it with this. Now, if you're lucky, you can hack through your ankle in five minutes. Go!"

a hacksaw

And why didn't he just use it to cut off the handcuffs?

as i am trying to remember, walkers were pushing in on the door and he didn't have time, the blade was dull, like when mad max handcuffed the dudes leg to the car in mad max.

Blade was too dull to cut steel, but still sharp enough to cut flesh

But sharp enough to cut through bone? Bone is stronger than steel:  http://www.livescience.com/6040-brute-force-humans-punch.html

They also have guns that never seem to run out of ammo during zombie attacks and every character has an almost inhuman ability to fire off perfect head shots from moving vehicles.

In other words: it's TV. Lighten up.

Or you could keep complaining, and the producers could hire Damon Lindelof to write.  Is that what you want?  You want that?  Then keep talking, tough guy.

/Saw that worthless douchbag tool on an episode of Talking Dead
//Had given up on the show and humanity as a whole, until they specifically said he wasn't writing for TWD

PsyLord: You know, there's something about The Walking Dead that makes you really hate some characters even though you think the actor is pretty damn good.  Michael Rooker and Jon Bernthal both did an excellent job at making me really hate their characters.

Michael Rooker specializes in that kind of character.

slayer199: Mikey1969: God, this farking show sucks it so bad now. It's not an urban legend if the farking zombies don't exist, it's a plot point in a fictional storyline.

Mythbusters quit being entertaining about 6 years ago,

Ooh, you're so cool and edgy to jump into a Mythbusters/The Walking Dead thread to talk about how both shows suck and aren't entertaining.

You really should look into getting the visor on your helmet cleaned, the splatter from your "episodes" is obviously building up. NOWHERE did I say "both" shows suck. Just Mythbusters, and it's not because I'm "cool" or "edgy", but because I watched it from the beginning, and they turned it into shiat. I have to spend half the time explaining to my kids how the show is abusing the term "science", and the other half explaining what the original premise of the show was.

The Walking Dead? Love the show, so maybe you should let the meds kick in before you start to rant next time, mmmmkay?

Works for me.

Ummm... Yes.  They aren't humans.  Not all animals run from danger.

Isn't that why dodos went extinct?

Geesh, calm down.  There are only so many "I know someone who put a quarter on a train track and it derailed the train" or "woman thought she was shot in the head but it was actually Pillsbury dough canister exploding" urban myths out there.

Its still pretty entertaining when they do movie myths.  The ones about fooling security systems, and jumping a car across the water, were pretty good.

Those look like something we used when I did demolition. Cut the head of a maddox in half, and affix each to its own handle. You have an axe head for scoring drywall, and a wide pry head for pulling sections down. These were homemade, so nowhere near as cool as the one you posted.

Mikey1969: I have to spend half the time explaining to my kids how the show is abusing the term "science"

Not pure science maybe, but that would be interminably boring as a TV show.

Mythbusters has done more to get my kids (middle/high school) interested in real science/experimentation subjects than any science teacher I ever had in school.

Plus they get to build cool shiat and shoot/blow it up on TV. I'd trade my hand just for their workshop, never mind getting to do that for a living.

My point was that too often, someone jumps into a thread about a TV show and rather than add anything relevant to TFA...they just stop in to bash the show(s).

My point was that Mythbusters quit being entertaining, original and watchable years ago. That IS relevant. This is just another example of how lame the show has gotten.

We cut bones all day long at work on a band saw and i can gurantee a pair of handcuffs would ruin the blade easily bone is pourous and easy to saw through
