Anderson's Pooper: Yeah, this one's the best of the lot.

Yup, heard about this in the snow fuelled traffic on the way home today, was going to try to post it but this headline is too good.

As I said above awesome headline... But ugly "trade" which actually benefits both teams, which is a little sad... Math being the only factor here.

Usually I think my Headlines are better, but ya got me on this one Subby.

Big question, this doesn't free up any Bruins cap-room for this season before the trade DL, does it?

yup about $5M. Boston is a pretty good team now, one more $5ishM player and they are on the short list for a cup again.

heh... you know that wouldn't surprise me.  TT''s not above doing things not in his best interest...
I think the trade still works even if he doesn't cash the cheques though...

When I first heard about the trade I was pissed (Another effing goalie?! And one who's less likely to play than DP?!), but really it's fine. You get rid of him, we worry less about the floor. Win-win.

But you know what wasn't a win? Tonight's game. Farking Rags.

My understanding was that it's an over 35 contract...  so he's still getting paid. Which is why it's actually a cap hit.

But he'll be suspended by the team for not reporting. So he's not getting paid. But it's a cap hit because of the over 35 contract.

Fark Tim Thomas. He could have been a sports legend in Boston for helping the Bruins win a Stanley cup after decades of futility. Instead he made the whole thing political and then decided he needed time away from the team for some kind of "sabbatical". FFS, Tim, you were going to meet the President at the White House as a champion. It's not like Obama was going to ask you to personally endorse Obamacare.

What he said. Anyway, we know goalies aren't the most rational people in the world to start with. You can't be rational and volunteer to get in front of 95+ mph pieces of rubber.

Thanks for the clarification, The actual spending $5M for nothing was rubbing the wrong way Wang wise but for the floor compliance.

The stupid part is Kessel has been playing really well this year.  It's not like Jason Blake a few years ago who was just shooting the puck from every stupid angle possible.  He's been passing the puck, back-checking and taking real quality shots.  The fact that he has been playing a good overall game is one of the reasons JVR has had a lot of room to work with in front of the net because defensemen know they can't cheat on Kessel.  Not that TSN would ever let that get in the way of a good talking point to rile up the comments section trolls.

Nice to see that the Islanders like to trade for good players...way past their prime, never going to play for them and just to cheat the salary cap floor.  Keeps them from trading for good players they could actually use.

Meh. I'm not going to begrudge Wang for running the team on a tight budget after losing a lot of his own money trying for years to make something happen on Long Island. Between that and the complete lack of interest from free agents (some even taking less money to play elsewhere), it's hard to bring people in. As far as trades, I'd actually like to see all those guys they drafted (Strome, Reinhart, El Nino on something other than the 4th line) get some extended time in the NHL before they're shipped off.

The waiver wire's been kind to us though. Moulson, Grabner, Nabokov, the half of the team that they picked up in the week between the end of the lockout and the start of the season...

Thomas' contract still counts towards the Bruins' salary cap obligations, since he is over the age of 35. Thomas announced last summer that he was taking a year off from hockey

Good riddance Timmy.

I watched you play as well as any goaltender we ever had, and that's saying something around here. That Cup run was some of the greatest hockey I've ever seen, played with the kind of skill, intensity, and sheer nuts that entire teams can rally around. It was one for the ages, and I for one am thankful to have seen you at your best, bringing a long-awaited Cup home for us diehards in the process.

Then, you blew it. Pissed it all away. Instead of being a part of your team, your employer, you chose instead to make a bullshiat political statement, showing what your "movement" is really all about... yourself and no one else.

Understand that no one begrudges you your beliefs... they are what they are and that's great. Good for you. For a brief moment, you'd have had the libbiest libs who ever libbed pretty much hanging on your every word (well, the B's fans anyway), if only you were capable of properly articulating them. But you didn't, because you couldn't. Instead of making those beliefs known in a way that everyone could respect, you pulled the professional equivalent of taking your ball and going home, like a whiny child surrounded by bullies both real and perceived. Guess what Tim... any media market would have grilled you about blowing off the White House... not just big scary libby Boston. You chose to be a selfish douche, and you were called out on it. I guess when your oft-advertised beliefs can't withstand scrutiny, the only thing left to do is abandon it all.... run and hide.

I'm sure that in your bubble you're a hero to many, being praised for having the courage of your convictions. You've got nothing to prove to those libby heathens after all... you're a bootstrappy patriot dammit, and if that's a problem for someone well too bad, amirite? Of course I am. So, it's off to hockey purgatory for you, assuming you play a single minute there... an undignified end to an otherwise solid career. But it's the end you wrote for yourself, and thus deserve... and I for one won't miss you.

P.S. Tukka says thanks.

one poster on that article claims that the islanders didn't need this trade to make the floor. so, jokes aside (unlikely, this being fark), some internet poster knows the islanders economics better than the islanders do?

SupplySideJesus:  Instead of making those beliefs known in a way that everyone could respect

there is no way to render his beliefs in any way that anyone could respect

2013-02-08 09:33:02 AM
How many people in recent years have had their rights traded to the Islanders only to never play for them?

Thomas and Ehrhoff come to mind.

Lubomir Visnovsky has done everything he can to try not to go the Island, but looks like he's finally giving up the fight and going there.
