keep believing that myth guys...don't back down, never change!  you KNOW all unemployed people are druggies!  SMASH THEM DOWN!  ignore the dirty libruls, you KNOW you are right.

You know... sooner or later you drooling f*ckwits are going to run out of things to try and blame all the troubles in the world on. At that point, you're going to have to look in a mirror and confront the real problem

They'll be old and senile by that point and another generation of farktards will have replaced them.

Oh it was a success whether they caught someone or not. Probably similar to Florida, the buddy of a politician owned a drug testing firm and just made a ton of money

Peter von Nostrand: Oh it was a success whether they caught someone or not. Probably similar to Florida, the buddy of a politician owned a drug testing firm and just made a ton of money

It's different in Florida -- the governor('s wife) owns the drug-testing company.

2013-02-07 06:02:55 PM
Another case of "fiscally responsible" Republicans wasting money to solve a "problem" that was costing way less than the "solution."

Way to go, small gub'ment guys!

2013-02-07 06:04:15 PM
So you're saying they're spending more money on drug testing than they're saving on unemployment insurance? Shocking.

I knew she owned the company, I just wrote that poorly. Like most of what I post

Which is why you put "drug dealer" as one of the jobs you applied for to keep unemployment insurance.

2013-02-07 06:11:59 PM
Wait, so you mean most people who are actively looking for work aren't on drugs? What a shock! It's almost like trying to find a job is actually difficult.

Small government for the rich and by the rich, with indignity and injustice for all (poors).

2013-02-07 06:13:26 PM
Wait so they busted a guy who was looking for work?

2013-02-07 06:13:29 PM
Let's kill the whole program, then lynch that one guy that ruined it for everyone.

2013-02-07 06:14:58 PM
Why how unlikely that outcome is! After all, it's not like it's INCREDIBLY EASY TO PISS CLEAN FOR A DRUG TEST. MOST DRUGS THAT AREN'T MARIJUANA ARE UNDETECTABLE IN YOUR SYSTEM 3 DAYS OR LESS AFTER USE. AND EVEN IF YOU DID SMOKE POT THERE ARE WIDELY AVAILABLE MASKING AGENTS FOR YOUR URINE THAT IF USED CORRECTLY WILL FOOL THEIR TEST ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME.

The only unemployed people that can afford drugs are teenagers.

They should test the legislators first.

2013-02-07 06:23:20 PM
Possible reasons:

1.  People who were using drugs while on unemployment stopped using drugs because of the testing.
2.  People who were using drugs (and maybe some who weren't) while on unemployment stopped taking unemployment because they didn't want to get tested for drugs.
3.  People who were on unemployment weren't using drugs.

THIS. At least the people on unemployment ostensibly payed for the unemployment insurance while they were employed. These free loading legislators get a damn salary directly from the tax payer. We should know what our congress critters like to do in their free time, we don't want them legislating under the influence now would we?

Extend unemployment so victims of the economic downturn can eat and live somewhere: Government Pork
Spend millions of dollars on drug tests to show one guy receiving those benefits took drugs: Fiscal Conservatism

It's worth any cost if it saves one child catches one user!

That's a pretty silly argument, isn't it gun-grabbers?

2013-02-07 06:29:25 PM
I'm more than willing to pay higher taxes to pay for programs like this. If it means screwing over just one guy with big rims on his car, it's worth it.

Drug test before a gun purchase though? Now that's ridiculous.

See, we need to get rid of all these good-fer-nothins drawing off the government teat -- they're destroying the economy. Can you believe how bad the economy is? Most everyone I know, myself and my wife included, are unemployed! I've been unemployed more than a year, in fact. My wife even longer. If it weren't for unemployment benefits, I don't know what I'd do about my truck payments. But it's just too hard to find jobs, there aren't any out there! I stopped looking! No jobs to be had, no sir. And you know who I blame? It's those damn welfare queens, too lazy to find real work, content to sit at home and collect that check from Uncle Sam. Yessir.

2013-02-07 06:31:52 PM
Goddamn, imagine being the poor schmuck who failed the test.  Not only you didn't get the job, but you also got screwed over on unemployment.  AND YOU'RE THE ONLY ONE.

God reeeeaaallly hates someone in Georgia.

2013-02-07 06:33:40 PM
Is the state really paying for the tests?  The article makes it seem like companies that are hiring and administer tests can choose to report back the results if someone fails, but is not obligated to.

/So one employer bothered to report someone

According to the people who defend this idiocy, it's 1 and 2 when in reality, the real answer is 3.

Yeah, the funny thing about drugs? It's sometimes really hard to stop using them, and even if you do some drugs remain detectable for weeks if not months. So #3 is probably the most likely by far.

Indiana and West Virginia last year started drug testing people enrolled in government-funded job training programs. In each state, the failure rate came in at 1 percent. Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) last month.

You never really hear the costs associated with these small government, taking-our-freedoms-back programs from the liberal media.

I would have no problem with this IF when a person tests positive they give them the option to go to rehab and the state pays for it.  Unfortunately it is not intended in any way to help the person with their problem, but rather make it even harder on the person to succeed in life.  As the program is designed now, it basically is to kick someone when they are down rather than offer them a hand up.

Trolling douches of the world:
This is costing you money.  This is personally costing you money.  A lot of tax payer money in mostly red states is being spent to drug test people for what is amounting to no damn reason at all.  This is your money.

Whenever I hear something like this, I find myself hoping that just maybe the GOP will learn from it and retreat from implementing what is a clear failure.

Then I remember they've been pushing "trickle-down" economics for more than 3 decades.

Republicans just don't learn.
