And since the thread is pretty early, here's the impressive knockout from last night's TUF:  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CrYmRS59uK8

Pretty much the definition of KTFO.  For a brief instant, I thought he was dead.  Not often you see someone unconcious and twitching with their eyes open.  He's OK though.

Genuine question: Both times I've seen a spinning heel kick knockout, the defender responds, but they have their hands low.  Are the fighters expecting a different kind of strike or just have their hands in the wrong place?

It does appear to me that he didn't expect a head kick. Obviously I can't read his mind, but it looks to me, at least, that he was looking for a body shot, or possibly even a takedown. The old truism that the ones you don't see coming knock you out would seem to apply here.

Proper hand position is a common fault even at the highest levels of fighting. Hands should be at your own eye level even when you think you're out of range of a strike (maybe even especially then). Natural body mechanics make you lower your hands as you get more tired and when ever you throw a strike of your own.

I got KTFO'd once and I never saw it coming and the section of my hard drive containing the memory of those 3-4 seconds has been permanently wiped clean. Nothing is spookier than watching yourself do something on video that you don't remember doing.

That was a hell of a scene. Hall saying "sorry, Adam" while he was still unconscious was rather poignant.

Also, what a shot. I didn't see it coming (either).

Thanks for the input, gentlemen.  I just thought it was extremely weird that he brought his guard down but didn't really seem to be covering for a side kick, which seemed like the other possibility from that windup.  (Consider this an uninformed point of view, but it didn't look like the defender had much of a counter-option.  Just take the blow and move on.)

I leave these sports to the people who are the most qualified to participate in them for a reason, and I laugh whenever I hear people classify boxers as "soft" or other fighters as "a joke".  You introduce yourself to that level of danger, you're exempt from the criticism that is given to most athletes.

Yeah I thought it was going to be clever hype a la Kimbo Slice from Season 10 but damn that was sick.  Honestly I don't know if many current UFC fighters could have stopped that one.

LOL.

Tiniest I approve of is Vale Tudo shorts.

I just think shorts should fit and be above the knees.  Since MMA is essentially no-Gi (no one ever grabs their own clothes even though it's allowed) I think extra fabric should be at a minimum.

I farking hate "gladiator" style shorts, too.
