They found his wallet and badge in San Diego, after he got foiled trying to steal a boat to head for Mexico. I'm all for his getting across the border, if that means he'll stop killing people.

That doesn't mean we'll stop chasing him, or that he shouldn't face the consequences. But I'd rather catch him on our terms and on the Mexican's terms than have him go out in a hail of bullets.

This won't last very long.  Shooting at police rarely results in happy endings.  I predict he will be gunned down within the next 4 hours.

The news coverage about this is confusing at best.

As I understand it, the Officer was fired for turning in his supervisor for kicking a disabled man.  Then, years later he killed the daughter of the Officer who defended him in this case, along with her cop boyfriend. Then, he shot some random cops and is either stalking more Officers or hiding in Mexico.

Is that vaguely accurate?

So why did an Officer fired in 2007 get to keep his badge?

I'm not sure if this situation needed more guns or fewer, but there definitely weren't the right amount.

I think they "retire" it but you can keep it as a parting gift.  I thought FBI agents get to keep their credentials but they have "retired" stamped on it or some crap like that.

Mostly. The manifesto is online, he turned in his fellow cops a couple times for unprofessional/illegal conduct, and then has fired because they say he made up the kicking incident and also said that he'd been making threats towards other officers. So now he's going after all those involved in the case, and says he's going to take their families away since their ruining his name cost him a chance at having his own family.

He's killed the daughter (and her fiance) of the guy who defended him against the lying charges (who he accuses of basically throwing his case) that got him fired, shot a cop this morning who was guarding someone on his list, and is suspected of shooting two other cops who were on patrol and happened to pull up beside him.

With all the cuts most departments have made over the years; most officers have to buy their own badges. And, they can buy more than one.

This story is even weirder than this article makes it out to be... there were two more shootings (in Redondo Beach and Torrance - about 60 miles west of the current manhunt) that seem like cops shooting the crap out of pickups like the one the alleged cop-killer is driving.

This guy sounds like every Bruce Willis movie. In fact, I'm positive in movies where the ex-cop is gravely wronged and he's going around trying to clear his name / unravel a conspiracy that endangers the nation, that the public gets a hit-piece article exactly like the one posted.

So it's going to be like that Dirty Harry movie with the vigilante cops?

How exactly do they stop/catch him?  He was a cop and knows their procedures including their ROE.  Instead of looking for him, why not just wait in ambush at the remaining targets... Then again I guess he could use a bomb or a .50 sniper rifle and just pick them off a mile away.

fark that, he testified that one of the LAPD training officers beat up a retarded guy. You don't do that to the LAPD and expect to live. Effectively, he was dead as soon as he did that. That was what ended his police career and started the pattern of harassment that put him on this path in the first place. He was already dead, now he is just taking some with him on the way.

If two uninvolved newspaper delivery women need to die to reduce the risk to qualified Officers, that's a trade off society will need to make.

Ah, yes, and a guy who starts murdering the family members of those he perceived wronged him is *clearly* level-headed enough to have assessed this correctly, and isn't dealing with a persecution complex.

Even if that's *true*, he's still a piece of shiat for going after people whose only relation to his wrongdoing is their familial relations. I'm not even a pro-cop person, but that's bullshiat, and the fact that he's willing to murder people uninvolved for petty revenge makes me somewhat disinclined to believe his claims.
