What about the sitcom where Yoda is forced to room with Vader, and it details their wacky adventures?

Wait, Prequel Vader, or OT Vader? Because I could listen to JEJ argue with Yoda for hours.

Yaddle, huh?  Ok, I was wondering about the origins of that picture I've seen circulating on the intertubes...

A Yoda movie would be unbearable.  I could only handle listening to that little bastard talk for about two minutes.

Empire Strikes Back Yoda is not grating. He's a Mister Miyagi Space Magician, and it works. Prequels Yoda needs a good b****slap to set his muppet ass back in line.

I would have liked to have seen a stand-alone movie involving Hattori Hanzo and why he's so pissed off at Bill.

At first I thought it was a young Yoda sporting a mullet.

I get the feeling that Disney is looking for a quick return on their investment.  Running the franchise into the ground may make the most sense to corporate Disney.

I'm not sure why anyone thought it would work in the first place. CGI spinning Yoda from the prequels was one of the lower points in an already putrid effort.

2013-02-07 03:21:51 PM
Yoda is a supporting character. Much like Boba Fett, a good portion of his coolness comes from the mystery around him. He's not the kind of character that can carry his own movie

I'm sure Jar-Jar Biggs will provide some much needed comic relief during his scenes.

The author brings up many good points. However it could be done right. The key would be: very little dialog. Make Yoda a sort of Ronin-esque wanderer who confronts bullies and such, but is generally slow-moving and silent. He would have to be like the man with no name, who rides into town on some unknown business and brings justice to the wicked.

2013-02-07 03:26:27 PM
Author writes from prequel buthurt view.

Most people thought prequel Yoda kicked ass.

But the only person I've ever heard complain about prequel Yoda was Roger Ebert, who disliked the move from Zen Warrior. But that's called Character Arc.

Yoda was a great warrior brought low by a foe who he could not defeat. He became more zen because of the defeat, not that he was always zen.

Yoda is simply not a wartime consiglieri.

"Wars not make one great." Good advice from the knucklehead that led the cream of the Jedi into a battle with robots in a death arena.

The first thing they should do as an act of goodwill to the fans is to go ahead and release the ORIGINALS in Blue Ray, and get that out of the way.  THey can re-release extra special packages or something later, but just go ahead and knock those out.

Then start the standalone movie about Han and Lando's crazy Crockett and Tubbs' adventures in Star Wars Miami, gambling, chasing space chicks, "spice" running, losing the Falcon, etc.

And then a Beatles-esque public burning of everybody's prequel DVD's at the Magic Kingdom.

/Who am I kidding?  It's just a matter of weeks before the three Force Ghosts are the Haunted Mansion hitchhikers.

Because that's EXACTLY what they did with Marvel Studios, right?

I don't know, the first Clone Wars episode rocked and it was only Yoda.  In 22 minutes he was Zen, teaching the clones they had distinct personalities, kicked battle droid ass, beat Ventress just by yanking her sabers away, then forged a treaty with the Toydarian king right in front of Dooku's holo.

So the reason not to make a movie is that speech out of sequence is, and confusing over time this dialog will become?  Give me a break.  Don't balk on a film's popularity because of the illiterate and unimportant 2% of the prospective audience.

Do those even exist anymore? I just keep imagining Lucas locking them in a crate and shipping them to the Area 51 warehouse at the end of Raiders.

You can buy the originals on DVD, at least.  They sell them on Amazon.  I'd much rather have them released on VuDu than Blue Ray.  I'm kind of surprised that people buy physical media these days.  I love me my streaming.

No. It's that it would be annoying and come off as contrived, which distracts the suspension of disbelief.

Yoda seemed more badass to me when he raised an X-wing in Dagobah than when he breakdanced Christopher Lee to a draw during a swordfight.

Yep, the Obi-Wan/Vader light saber duel in A New Hope was far better than the CGI messes they ended up with. They were cool in their own right, and might have worked elsewhere, but they took away from the actual flow of the story, which has always been an Oatie in space...

I agree that lots of of Yoda's charm lies on the mystery surrounding his character, but it doesn't have to be an origin movie. The guy had more than 800 years worth of material, so it could be set on any point of his career as Jedi.

I said on an earlier thread that I would love this to be a Pixar movie set few years previous the Clone Wars.

Actually, I would like tho see a story when he and Dooku where still master and apprentice.

I generally agree with the author of TFA, but I come from a non-butthurt about the prequels place with my opinion.

I do think Yoda works better as a supporting role. I also don't think Disney needs to do stand-alone movies about established characters.

There's an entire galaxy (far, far away) in which to delve for story ideas. George Lucas gave us this fantastic sandbox with which to play. Why do we rehash the same old tired out shiat over and over?
Give me a film about...the smuggling trade/smuggling routes and the seeding of asteroids with space slugs? Plenty of good material to draw from that isn't established character-centric.

In spite of all his wisdom, Yoder was a poor decision maker.  Many of his actions farked everything up for everyone.

In spite of all his space feelings of danger, he still agreed to let Obiwan train Anakin.  He totally enabled Luke leaving Endor before he was fully trained.

/ I still get chills when he delivers his Luminous beings are we... speech.  Damn, that is some magic right there.

Yeah, streaming works well when you're travelling and the kids want to watch a movie in the car. Or when WiFi at the hotel costs you $15 a day. Or when the power is out and you still have a charge on your laptop or portable DVD player. Or when you're riding the train to work.

Streaming is nice, but it is not going to replace physical media anytime soon. You are too tethered. Besides, I have yet to watch something streaming that was the quality I want, didn't have commercials AND didn't run into buffering issues.
