Felony hit-and-run? More like "felony hit-stop-for-a-moment-then-run."

People.  :/

Maybe the employee shouldn't have been wandering through the drive-thru lane?

2013-02-07 09:57:37 AM
Did she stop to smear the food on the face of her victim?

They wrap the drive through around the building.  It is impossible to enter or exit the building WITHOUT walking through the "drive through lane".

I've always thought that was unfair.

So, lemme get this straight. If the restaurant is closed, and I have no car, I'm not allowed to eat???

Fark you, fast food industry!

Is it racist if I guessed she was black?

2013-02-07 10:01:34 AM
I can see the color of the drivers skin has impacted the charges filed against her. She stopped and talked to the victim and later called the restaurant to check back. That is hardly what Hit & Run crimes are about. I can guarantee there wouldn't be charges if the exact same thing happened with a white driver.

A Chik-Fil-A recently opened near my house and they are wrapped around the building at all hours of the day. What is the fascination?

How do you hit someone in a drive thru. You should be going slow enough to pretty much stop on a dime.

FTA: Boone allegedly briefly stopped, asked if Knight was OK, then continued through the drive-thru, paid for her food and left the scene.

Knight reportedly suffered a broken leg.

I wonder how did that scene play out.

BOONE: (stops car next to Knight.) Oh, man, are you okay?
KNIGHT: No. I think my leg is broken.
BOONE: Well, that sucks. ...bye. (speeds off.)

She might as well have not stopped for all the good she did.

Sheapparently did stop. What if the person in the cow said it was their fault and that they were fine? The reason that Hit & Run is a crime is because the perpetrator is trying to prevent their identification and association with the incident. The driver did none of those things - speaking with the victim after the incident and calling back later. That 'broken bone' could have just been a hairline fracture and the 'cow' might have walked right back into the restaurant - claiming to be okay. The charge is clearly not warranted, but business as usual when a black person can be charged.

Is "cloud of feathers" something deeply obscure?
Since Ms. Lovett Boone hit a cow, wouldn't it be a cloud of hay, or sling of manure?

Would maybe hit:

Maybe, but TFA says the employee had her leg broken in the accident. I doubt she (the employee) gave the driver a smile and a "don't worry about it, I'm fine" wave.  I can only speak for myself, but I would be too busy screaming to be polite to a customer

I think the 'cloud of feathers' was reference to the Road Runner running over the coyote and then disappearing as it runs off in a cloud of feathers. Road Runner: Wile E Coyote as to Chicken:Cow as to driver:teenage worker.

The driver also contacted the restaurant AND the police department. Probably called the restaurant, heard that the employee really was hurt, and then called the police. This is hardly an attempt to evade. She probably left her contact/insurance information with the employee too. This sounds like a case of the local VA police looking for any excuse to arrest a black NC woman.

Doesn't say she stopped and "talked to". You're assuming that. It says she stopped and asked if she was okay. Doesn't say if she waited aroun d for an answer.  Doesn't say that she mightn't have herad about the hit-and-run before calling back. You're assuming lots of things. You know what they say a bout assuming things. You sound race baiterist.

I wonder if pressing charges affects any of the liability or compensation Chik-fil-A might owe for an on-the-job injury.  I certainly wouldn't be surprised to hear the restaurant is insisting on charges because it'll put the financial burden off them and onto the customer.

Lotta "probablies" in your post.

I think she probably screeched to a halt, spit in the cow's face, and sped off.  Her calls to the restaurant later were probably crank calls.

\please keep playing the race card, though, it's moderately amusing to see someone jump so far to a conclusion

CSB:

I was driving in the drive-thru lane at my local Taco Bell last week when a douchebag ran across the lane right in front of me (there is a crosswalk from the parking lot to the entrance, but I had already passed that). Came damn close to hitting him. I surmise he was in a hurry to get into the building since it was 10 degrees and he had no coat. What a dumbass.

It depends. Every time I see the Chick-Fil-A cow it is being escorted by another employee because the lack of visibility in the suit puts the employee at considerable risk. The driver could potentially even sue the restaurant - claiming the cow walked out in front of her because the girl inside couldn't see and wasn't escorted. Would you want to wander through a busy parking lot or drive through with blinders on? You can't hear well inside those costumes and your vision is very restricted.

CheekyMonkey: Pretty sure if you hit a pedestrian with your car and break one of their legs, you are bound by law to wait around for the cops, no matter what your skin color is...

If the person is down and hurt, yes. But it might have been a little bump and the employee may have gotten up and gone inside without obvious injury.

CheekyMonkey: \please keep playing the race card, though, it's moderately amusing to see someone jump so far to a conclusion

The injured employee was also black. My use of 'the race card' was in the notorious overcharging of blacks. There are many tiers that could be charged. She WASN'T charged with 'leaving the scene of an accident' which is usually an A-misdemeanor in most states. She was charged with Hit and Run Felony. This is only a chargeable offense on public roads - not drive throughs. In fact, if she stopped and gave her name and details and later contacted the police - which the article said she did - then the charges are bupkis.

I suspect it's a hairline fracture that only became visible when the Chik-fil-a manager told the employee they had to go to the hospital and get x-rayed. That would be standard operating procedure at any large chain store.

Near where I live we had someone get into a single car accident at 4 in the morning. He didn't have a phone and there weren't any other cars around, so he walked a block and called the police from his girlfriend's phone. They charged him with leaving the scene of an accident.

And this is a white guy I'm talking about. Some cops will charge anyone they can with anything they can.
