This kind of BS always reminds of this event from the 60s. The pool owner in the photo would rather dump acid in the pool than allow black people to swim in it. See also: restaurant owners who shut their businesses down so they wouldn't have to serve black customers.

My stepdad had hip replacement surgery a few months back. After the surgery, he was transferred to a rehab facility. He struck up a conversation with his roommate, who seemed like a nice fellow at the time. My stepdad discussed his business and asked his roommate (an obviously older gentleman who most likely retired) what he used to do. The roommate's response was......
"I used to own a couple of laundromats in the area ages ago. I kept them open until I was forced to remove my 'Whites Only' sign from the window. After that, I just didn't see a reason to keep them open any longer".
After that, he says he worked for the postal service until retirement. My stepdad decided to do rehab at home from that point on. People always say the 50's and 60's were simpler times. I think people tend to romanticize that past however.

I'm pretty sure by "whites only" he meant that people couldn't wash their dark clothes there...

Bendal: Wow, those gay students are really scaring that school board, aren't they? Do they think gay-ness will rub off on the straight students?

I've tried rubbing off my gayness onto choice straight guys before.

It... didn't work out well.

hasty ambush: 1.  Why would schools need to be invovled in an "after school" club to begin with? Don't they have enough  during school issues to deal with?

2.  If gays and straights want to have an alliance  why do they need a school sponsorship to do it?

3.  How would this "alliance' support the school curriculum?

4. You know who else formed an alliance?

1. All kids on school property need to be under a teacher's eye or on their way to or from such a state. Any after school club on school grounds needs a teacher there or insurance and parents go apeshiat.

2. They don't. They have a moral obligation to do it in protest of the rules just to fark with the school.

3. Clubs are extra-curricular. By definition they're not involved with the curriculum.

4. The Blacks and the Potters. It was called "The Order of the Phoenix"

Lake County might as well be Georgia or Alabama, it's in the "the farther north you go the farther south you are" part of Florida.

I think the ACLU ought to bring that up.  BAN *ALL* THE ACTIVITIES!!1!

MaudlinMutantMollusk: Take care, Northerner... you tread dangerous ground

I'm ready for a rumble.

Speaking of "unintended consequences", are you sure you want to infringe on the only activity that interrupts both the production and consumption of crystal meth down there?

I'm sure the people making these decisions are doing it because Jesus.

John 8:7 "So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.  Unless she's gay.  Because seriously, screw those guys.  With their icky butt-sex and scissoring.  Seriously, gross.  Cast the stones at her with all the strength you can muster.  My will be done, amen."

Good god man. Do you understand the implications of your statement? If you live in Florida, your life may actually be in danger. Florida school boards would fire every single teacher before taking a dime away from a football program.

That sounds about right.  Can't very well allow equality, so toss everything instead!  It's the smart thing to do.
