I tried to watch Bob's Burgers, but two things killed it for me:

One, the pilot episode was terrible.  Boring and not funny.

Two, H Jon Benjamin using the same EXACT voice for Bob as he does for Archer.

Reason number one is far more important, and I have read people raving about the show, so maybe one day I'll give it another chance.

Not at all, but his inability to do more than one voice has ruined Bob's Burgers and Home Movies for me.

He also does the voices of Jason (which is probably why McGuirk hates him) and Walter, plus others.

The problem is less that he can only do one voice, and more that all these shows just want the Coach McGuirk voice. Ron Lynch seems like the lazy one.

I can't NOT laugh at how cranky the Mallory model appears to be.

I know that Mallory is voiced by Arrested Development's Jessica Walter, but the character reminds me (physically, anyways) of Susan Sullivan, the actress who plays Rick Castle's mom on Castle.

I was the same. I gave it a chance when it came out, didn't watch any more of it until this past autumn, when I was bored and in need of some junk-food entertainment, so I downloaded the first season. It either grew on me or just got better, because I liked it pretty well.

I've tried to get into Bob's Burgers twice.  I can't because of the voice thing.  I've also come to the conclusion that in Archer the humor is different because there are characters who try.  Archer is always off task, but Lana, Cyril, and Ray tend to actually try.  Krieger also has his own agenda, but the man is damn good at what he does.  Whereas Bob is a loser, the wife is an annoying shrew, and the kids are farking retards.  As much as I want to find both shows funny, I just can't get into the Burgers one.

AdolfOliverPanties: Two, H Jon Benjamin using the same EXACT voice for Bob as he does for Archer.

The voices sound exactly alike at first, but there are many subtle changes that make them sound very much like two different people once you've seen both shows over and over.

Mugato: ha-ha-guy: As much as I want to find both shows funny, I just can't get into the Burgers one.

You're not alone in that. I can't get into Bob's Burgers ether. Like Archer a lot though. The animation can be amazing at times.

We should start a support group. I'm on the same boat. I just don't find it funny for some reason. My wife watches and laughs out loud and I look like the tool sitting there quiet. Just like when her and her family watched Dane Cook stand-up.

Too lazy to typ

Archer, Bob, Coach McGurk, Satan (Lucy, daughter of the Devil), The Master (Venture Bros), the store clerk from Family Guy, crapton of others

And Ben from the great Dr. Katz. Love that damn show. It made even Ray Romano funny.

Toshiro Mifune's Letter Opener:
Still, I don't get Gary Busey and Nick Nolte confused, so I give myself points for that.

CSB:

I worked at an amusement park during high school (~20 years ago) and one day there was a clamor outside our building. People were saying that Nick Nolte was walking around. It was actually Gary Busey. I followed him and his friend from a distance, and when they stopped at a map, I walked up and asked if I could help them find anything (which was SOP for any "guest" looking at a map, but this was the only time I ever actually did it). I never acknowledged that I knew who he was, and he politely said "No, we're OK."

May not be much, but I can say I've talked to Gary Busey. And seen firsthand how people don't know the difference between Gary Busey and Nick Nolte.

Archer would suck a whole lot less if the identical voice wasn't used in what, a 1/2 dozen other cartoons? Way to put in zero effort.

I just don't laugh at it and it bugs me feeling like I'm missing something goddamnit. Archer rules though, hands down!

I just watched the first three episodes of Bob's Burgers tonight for the first time.  The cultural references are funny (especially the Shining bar scene when Bob gets 'stuck' between the walls) but overall it didn't really work.  I just found a number of the characters annoying and distracted from the everything else that was gone on.

I love having him show up as the necromancer's spirit guide on Venture Bros.  There's nothing like Archer saying, "I can lick my own balls!"

It's like the guy who did the voice of "Spike" for the dub of Cowboy Bebop. He only does THAT voice. So everyone, including the Toonami robot at the time, is Spike.

Nah, not much of a hipster,  don't watch much in the way of TV myself. Mostly just see what my kid watches and Doctor Who, Warehouse 13, Lost Girl, and a few other shows, but I end up watching them online. Reality TV can go blow goats.

Just now watching Archer because I don't have much faith in the vast majority of TV programming. If it's good it usually ends up getting cancelled, so I don't go watching many new shows. I'll typically end up watching it after it's been on a few seasons then catching up with old shows on Netflix, Hulu, torrents or what have you and then watching it as it comes on TV after I've caught up.

Also, general taste trends on Fark tend to suck.

Huh... ain't that somethin'?  To me, the difference between the two is night and day, practically.

I'd like to know where the whole Nolte/Busey confusion thing originated from, because it's a mistake that a LOT of people make.

phattybeefpatty: wingnut396: AdolfOliverPanties: I tried to watch Bob's Burgers, but two things killed it for me:

One, the pilot episode was terrible.  Boring and not funny.

Two, H Jon Benjamin using the same EXACT voice for Bob as he does for Archer.

Reason number one is far more important, and I have read people raving about the show, so maybe one day I'll give it another chance.

Fark helped me with that.

I approach it as either one of two ways.

1.  Bob is Archer, after he has washed up and ran through all of Mallory's money.  This is all he has left, and its payback time.

2. Archer is Bob's fantasy alter-ego.  He imagines himself on these missions while he is flipping burgers to distract himself from his insane kids.  So he has insane coworkers.

Sorry. I'm usually with Fark on a lot of entertainment things. I just CANNOT get in to Bob's Burgers for some reason. I can't figure out why. Actually, if you listen to a side-by-side comparison, Archer is almost an octave higher than most of his characters (due to being younger than most of the characters he voices). They just sound the same because it's still H. Jon Benjamin, but he does put more effort into the Archer part.

He's said before that playing Archer puts strain on his voice, so he has to pace his recording sessions out to keep from straining his vocal cords.
