I believe the general consensus was that it was probably an intentional overdose. Especially with the note in his pocket.

In the end he was interred at the Bob Hope Memorial Garden (which he established as a place for show business people to be buried) at the San Fernando Mission Cemetery, which was where they had already decided he would be buried, but they had not picked out the plot.

Not as far as burials and funerals go.  As far as estate planning, yes, doing it well ahead of time makes sense, but not everyone does.  Pablo Picasso died without a will, with multiple wives, mistresses and a raft of children.  It took twenty years to settle his estate, and the family finally ended up donating a huge collection of his artwork (covering every period) to the French government to cover estate taxes.

/it's now a really nice museum in Paris.

Thereis some speculation his mother delivered the shot that killed him. She too was an addict. He had been taking Heroin all day, and could not steady his hands to hit a vein. According to the woman whose apartment where he OD'd, His mother went in the room and shut the door, an perhaps mainlined him.

The funny thing is that Bob really should have laid better plans.  Back in the 1960s, he built this huge (like 18,000 sq ft) house in Palm Springs, with the intention that it would become a museum after he and Dolores died.  The kids now have it on the market for over $50 mil, so there's not going to be any museum.
