Suckers are born every minute, and it unconscionable to let them keep cash. It is a moral imperative.

Potok noted plans for these sorts of communities rarely come to fruition.

"The people behind the Citadel are like 12-year-old boys talking about the tree house, or the secret underground city, they're going to build some day," he said.

Spot-on. Couldn't come up with a better metaphor if you hired a marketing firm.

FTA: "There is no leader," Christian Kerodin, a convicted felon who is a promoter of the project, wrote in a brief email to The Associated Press. "There is a significant group of equals involved ... each bringing their own professional skills and life experiences to the group.

Doesn't that make it a commune? From each according to his ability, to each according to his need?

Kerodin, who declined requests for a telephone interview, was convicted in 2004 of federal extortion charges and illegal possession of a firearm in a case in which he posed as a counterterrorism expert and attempted to coerce shopping mall owners in the Washington, D.C., area to hire him to improve security,

Okay then.

There is a fine line between Waco and Whacko, and this planned community hangs its self-slaughtered squirrel jerky on it to dry.

I think these enclaves are wonderful ideas!  As soon as their residents enter and close the barricades behind them, we build a larger, higher fence around them, lock and discard the key in the Marianas Trench.

Much like the fall of the Soviet Union left with wingnuts without a tangible enemy to hate and fear and forced them to turn that hate upon their fellow Americans, once the door is locked on Derpistan it will be a very short time until "Them there what for on Reagan Street just don't love Freedom the way us True Patriots here on Rand Way love Freedom. They must be destroyed!"

Soon, the Citadel will be populated by one gibbering man screaming "LIBERAL!" at his mirror.

Maybe it will get hit by a natural disaster and FEMA will have to come in to feed and clothe them.  That would be awesome.

If I were an anthropologist, this would be a golden opportunity to observe how a society in miniature can fracture and disintegrate.  you could gather all kinds of sociological data from an experiment such as this one.

Why aren't they counting gingers?

I had planned to mock Subby for this gem in the headline, but he managed to spell all the other words correctly and even managed to use the subjunctive, so he gets a pass.

It is also spelled the way that denizens of the compound would pronounce it.

Anything like this bunker or whatever would end up being everyone else working for the betterment of one leader and his chief lieutenants. See also any cult or tribal society or dictatorship that ever existed.

I told you we're an anarcho-syndicalist commune. We take it in turns to be a sort of executive officer for the week...but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting...by a simple majority in the case of purely internal affairs...

Probably.  I've called North Idaho home for twenty years now, and most of the long-time locals aren't any more racist than your average rural white folks (so yeah, kinda racist).  The transplants are the ones that tend to veer off into insane Aryan Nations-type territory.  Lot of them from Orange County.

Yeah, don't come here.  It's absolutely horrible.  Aryan parades every day and cross burnings every night.   Best to stay away.

I think a sociology grad student should get in on this as their thesis. Get some funding, lease a property, participate in the planning etc.

I also think that person, once living there, should pick some random night and throw a string of large firecrackers out their window while filing the reactions. . .
