Good luck with that.

Don't get me wrong: there will be folks who support this guy and carry water for him, but at this point it's akin to digging a hole to get out of the hole you've already dug.

While not wavering from his conservative principles and desire to tame the record U.S. debt, Cantor expressed a new eagerness to help the needy in such areas as education, health care, immigration and moving up the economic ladder

I think he's lying.  his mouth moved.

hilarious. they think that by simply "modifying the message" but not changing any of their policies they can win votes? do they really think the american public is that stupid?

wait, never mind.

As long as they can con folks to giving them cash, they'll keep this schtick up. The moment they see ratings dip, and campaign dollars waver, and more races lost, then they'll have a revelation.

At this point, it's a parody of a party. None of the positions really have much to do with their own personal positions, have little to do with a real agenda. It is all about chasing ratings and campaign dollars, and the only way to affect that revenue stream is to turn them off. Off on the tube and off at the polls.

"Over the next two years, the House (Republican) majority will pursue an agenda based on a shared vision of creating the conditions for health, happiness and prosperity for more Americans and their families,"

Who does he think he's fooling?  We all know this is code for "tax cuts for the rich".

I think I know how this went down....

White, old, racist RNC Committee member A: How can we get Hispanics to vote for us?

White, old, racist RNC Committee member B: We could change our racists policies.

White, old, racist RNC Committee member A: We can't do that. Let's just send a smarmy arsehole out to lie about us changing out racist policies.

White, old, racist RNC Committee member B: Brilliant.

The survey gave Republicans in Congress an approval rating of 24 percent, compared to a 37 percent rating for Democrats.

How many of you reading this would still have a job if 76% or even 63% percent of your customers disapproved of your product?

Soup4Bonnie: Alternate headline:  Cantor attempts to blow smoke up Nation's ass

the GOP could make a credible attempt at making key changes that would eventually lead to the nation starting to trust the Republican party again...but it's not going to happen over night, nor is the country going to trust the GOP easily ever again.  In fact, its possible that the Republicans have lost the next two generations of voters completely as a result of their asinine pro-rape and anti-middle class platforms.

Cantor, you're a sniveling little cock.

Rest of you GOPers, come with me for a sec...

Look, you guys lost it. Both in elections and mental state. You pandered to the lowest common denominator and played to fear and loathing. We're not in Las Vegas, you shouldn't do such a thing. You have lied, cheated, and tried to steal an election and we saw through you. You don't give those that can vote enough credit, and I think you really fear that. I think the idea that most of us aren't brain dead yokels who respond to "9/11", "socialism" and "FREEDOMS" to justify voting to take away our rights is really a terrifying thought for you lot. You guys despise us, it's okay to despise us, but lying to us doesn't help you out here. You want to change how we think about you then you really have to change your core convictions. Right now, you're on the wrong side of history and instead of trying to figure out how the country feels, you're going with what the most extreme minority and thinking that they're the face of the nation. They're not. You should know that by now. Although I imagine that would take some self reflection which I realize you're really not that into. You want to change how we see you, then get rid of the hate. Get rid of the bigotry and underhandedness. Get rid of the "give us everything or we destroy the country" mindset. Get rid of everything you do to try and divide us and really, truly try and bring the country together. Work together. Cooperation does not screw us over, cooperation gets us moving to recovery. Stop trying to win for the sake of winning. Win for the sake of bettering the country, not your wallets, not your stature, not your standing among the CEOs of the world.

You have the ability to change the course of history for the better. You have the chance to bring moderation back to the national spotlight. You have the chance to make conservative not be a bad word, or even Republican not be a bad word. You can rebuild this country with the help of the other side to really, *really* make this a "United States" of America. Find it in your hearts to make an attempt to improve this country. Find it in your souls to overcome the desire to namecall and demonize the other side. Get rid of those that do such a thing, distance yourself from the members of your party that call for secession, that demand we collapse the country and economy because that's what St. Reagan would do. Get rid of those forcing judeo-christian law while denouncing Muslim nations that do the same. Teach us that you actually feel compassion and can relate to 80% of the people in this country.

You're not going to win 100% of the country and I'm not asking you do that. I'm asking you to wake the fark up and accept that the path you're on. The path where you demonize those that are different from you, where you use fearmongering to achieve your Dystopian vision of the world, where you feel that you are the absolute authority on everything and cannot see any other viewpoints. It's your time to reform your party, but changing the message without changing the mindset isn't going to do a damn thing. We know your shiat and we're disappointed that you won't change this, that you won't update your conservatism so that you're not outright hating on a group of the population to scare people to vote for you.

Ball's in your court, good luck

And get rid of Cantor. He's going to keep you guys from winning elections for decades if he stays in power

2013-02-06 02:32:42 PM
Old School is how the GOP still thinks. Old school tells you that if you spin the message and tell them what they want to hear most of them will believe you. (enough to get elected)

The GOP still hasn't adapted to the internet age. When they talk BS to a small local crowd it goes national and they are busted. For many years they have been able to say different things to different crowds and it worked for them. Now they make ONE little 47% of people are moochers comment and everybody sees it immediately and for days.

If they want to survive they need to change tactics, not just work the old tactics harder.

/ Not holing my breath.

I think it's going to be very difficult to divorce the party from the extreme rhetoric. Rick Santorum was this close to beating Mitt Romney in the primaries, and now he's writing for World Net Daily. If you remove the homophobia, the appeals to white resentment of minorities, the demonization of sexually active women, and the cruelty towards Mexicans, all you're be left with is economic policies that favor the rich and punish the poor. If you remove that you're just a Democrat.

Even if the guys at the top are tweaking the message, you've still got a base that boos gay soldiers and cheers for electrified fences along the border.

Well, if customers voted to decide who kept their jobs, I'd convince them that I will totally make the product better and it's those other idiots that are ruining it. Seems to work pretty well for Congress.

Yeah, I hope they're not paying too much for those ads.  I can't imagine anyone's clicking on them, so all they're buying is a half square inch of screen that just says 'hyundai'.

That one ad with the Christian chick with the gigantic forehead at least got one click from me to see if she was a representative sample.
