That might take a little while. The US could end it in seconds. But people would get pissed, and the fallout would be a biatch.

"China is extremely concerned by the way things are going. We oppose any behavior which may exacerbate the situation and any acts which are not beneficial towards the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula," said Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying.

She is basically saying to NK we DO NOT want 30 millions NK refugess crossing over our borders because your dear leader decides to fark up his own country.

Actual meaning:

"Don't impose sanctions on them. This is your fault, leave the North Koreans alone"

It's a good thing that China props up NK. They'd probably be the top economy if they wren't spending cash propping up NK's failed state.

I'm not sure how excited I should be about this story, since just a few days ago China also expressed their extreme concern over Japan adding a whopping 287 members to their military force:  http://latestnews.thefiscaltimes.com/?p=65002

Do 287 Japanese soldiers= 1 NK nuke? Maybe if they're all ninjas...

The biggest problem outside the refugees would be how much damage could they do in the South before they're put down.

No one wants North Korea to fall.  Not China, nor Russia, nor Japan, nor South Korea, nor the US.  All potential outcomes are bad, short of NK coming out of the dark ages.  Really, the only reason they need an army is to keep their people in, because no one wants to touch the country even with a hundred foot long pole.  They could invite any country to annex them or agree to total reunification with South Korea in total charge over the North, and we'd all avoid it like the plague.

pretty much it. For some reason a lot of 'ignorant' folks are wanting to go to war or obliterate NK not knowing the end result is far worst for everyone than status quo.

China is propping up NK because they have no choice as any other alternative are far worst. They also have a LOT less influence on NK's leadership than what most Americans think. NK does their own insane crazy thing. They are far from being China's puppet state.

And I thought that tubby bastard Kim-Jong-Ching-Chong was supposed to moderate the country. Maybe China can put its massive manufacturing infrastructure to good use and build a giant dome to cover the northern half of the peninsula.

Hi, I'm stoplurklisten, I'm a libbylib on almost every way except for military intervention to prevent attacks upon our nation. Yes, I support the Bush Doctrine.

We will not allow an unstable party to acquire a credible nuclear threat to the United States. At the moment they do not have reliable intercontinental missiles nor reliable warheads to put on them; are we supposed to wait until they detonate a warhead over Dallas or Seattle to act?

No, I think their repeated provocations make their intentions clear. They are pursuing a goal to strike the United States. Failure to act now only increases the death toll when we DO act.

Take them out. Now.

My post was meant as a joke. I don't want to punish or obliterate the people of Best Korea because they have a mentally unstable fat-ass kid running the country. Although I'm sure he's more just a puppet being controlled by other fat-assed mentally unstable morons.

China's main goal is to keep the N. Korea situation stable. The last thing they need is for a couple million starving N. Koreans flooding over their border.

Not really, because then the flood of refugees would enter China. That's the main reason they put up with NK's nonsense. Keeping them from completely imploding is a hell of a lot cheaper and easier than having to fix their problems or help the populace. I doubt anyone outside of South Korea would so much as wag a finger at China if they went in and conquered NK, making it part of China. It'll never happen though, because bringing North Korea up to Chinese standards of health and economic viability would be a major drain on China's overall economy for years.

The other nations with whom were are currently in a state of war? None.

The other nations which have explicitly threatened a specific American city with nuclear annihilation as a negotiating tactic? None.

In May 1999, a North Korean military leader launched talks in Pyongyang by verbally attacking former Defense Secretary William Perry, first by calling him the enemy and then threatening to attack the California city where Perry lives, said Sherman, who was there.

The North Korean said if the United States didn't agree with North Korean demands, "he would bring a sea of fire to Palo Alto, Calif.," said Sherman.

Your choice. We can end it sooner, or later, and later will be this:

This is the best Best Korean strategy; give us food, supplies, and money, or else.  It's worked on us for a very long time now.  It might finally be time to just say "Come at me, bro!"  Put up or shut up.  My guess is they'd shut up.

Yeah, the first fallout would be where they bomb the living fark out of Seoul with artillery fire.

This is not a simple problem.

China is finally acting like a World Power?  Excellent.

Yes China, if you "fix" this problem then the world, your trading partners, will look at you differently.
They will feel more comfortable dealing with you on the global stage because you have demonstrated your ability to "reduce tensions."

This is a good thing.
Carry on.

Only way i see a way for NK to be dealt with. That dose not end with soul being turning into a waste land or millions of refuges heading for china boards is. For some nation to turn the current government into nothing more then a puppet government in such a way as the people of NK don't know.  Then use said puppet government to slowly bring standers up to the rest of the world and such.

A country run by a "Cult of Self-Reliance" is not likely to be dissuaded by the threat of taking away assistance.
