As a former Va Beach resident, let me be the first to assure you that Green Run is anything but stuffy... more like, po' white folk don't want po' black folk parking on their streets.

That whole area has gone right to shiat over the past 20 years.

"For months, both sides have brainstormed with police and city leaders about the parking problems. "
no. no they have not brainstormed anything.

1) metered parking
2) parking by permit only
3)  tow the cars which dont have the permit. charge them a lot more than the cost of towing and storage.
4) profit

How do you know they haven't considered those options?

I wondered if that were the subtext.

"Twin Canal don`t want folks in there after 10 o`clock that don`t live there, and they are having their people park in our neighborhoods," says Cole.

And this is the 'better class' of people doing the complaining.
I can only imagine what the other people are like.

Stuffy? Even by VA Beach standards, this doesn't give off a stuffy vibe.

Start burning cars. People will stop parking there.

Because this solution solves the problem of unwanted cars?
Because I have watched tow trucks yanking cars, over and over, when they are in violation?
Pretty quick and easy solution.

scratches and broken windows help too
although if the cars are already POS, scratches wont do much ...
nails in the tire sidewalls help too

Or, they could actually try to fix the problem.... Wait, that requires effort. Well, I guess it's time to get the torches and the pitchforks.

Your solution to get the cars out of there involves giving them flat tires...

It also creates a problem: towing the cars of guests or relatives that don't have a permit.

Issue street-parking permits for residents.
Build a parking garage and charge non-residents.
Profit!

I don't understand why anyone would live in a place that doesn't include ample parking.

My GF wants to move to the downtown area of our city. I said, "Fine. But if I get a parking ticket, you can friggin' pay it. I'M not the one who wanted to move to that shiathole."

What kind of shiatty-ass apartment complex doesn't let visitors of the residents park in the parking lot? It says parking is "restricted." What does that mean? Who lets people into the complex, but not their cars? Maybe I'm just dumb, so I don't understand.

Let's replace them with robots. Same work, less crime.

When parking becomes illegal, only criminals can park.

2013-02-06 01:50:37 PM
First, why would an apartment not have enough parking designed into the complex?

More important, if this is not a gated community and the streets are public and people have garages and driveways, how is this even legal.

/Should have gone to more city meetings or voted out your local representatives if you didn't want a lower income apartment complex there.

It depends on when the complex was built. I use to live in an area with a lot of complexes that were built in the late 60's and early 70's. When they were built they had planned for 1 car person apartment as it was the norm back then just to have 1 car per household, if any. But now those apartments complexes aren't able to accommodate modern parking demand and the only way to fix the problem is with a lot of demolition and construction.

Why did one of my neighbors have 8 cars parked at his house every night they design the parking to fit a normal amount of visitors. My place gives you one permit and one guest pass per bedroom then they start toeing

In all fareness, I hate it when other assholes park in front of my house..They either park right in front of my gate or caddy-corner to my driveway so I can't park in either spot.

If I can't take a piss off the front porch and shoot a deer off the back porch, then it's not for me.

These are my two main requirements wherever I have lived and any extra hassle to find a place has been well worth the effort.

I like city folk as long as they stay in their domain.

I have been at odds with my neighbors for a couple years over parking.  I am on an end lot with the side of my house facing another street.  At one point, I had one parking space in my yard but 2 vehicles so the other one went onto the street next to my driveway.  I parked on one side and one neighbor complained that he has trouble backing out so I parked on the other side, the other neighbor complained that he can't back his big ass truck out.

So I build a big ass garage with parking for 2 inside and 2 outside but still on my property.  OK, problem solved?  Now neighbor 1 is no problem but now, neighbor 2 has extended family coming at all times of the week or night coming to crash for a few days with multiple vehicles emptying their burger wrappers and butts onto the blvd I am responsible to maintain.  Now neighbor 3 gets her licence and has her friends and B/Fs coming over and none of them know how to park, same as the 2nd neighbor.  They park all over the blvd sometimes 3 feet past the curb.  I am legally responsible to mow the grass there.  Neighbor 2 tells me it's a public street and he can park there even if he is too drunk to see the curb and tells me to mow the grass when he isn't there.  Neighbor 3 tells me to fark off when I ask them to get their car off the grass so I can mow.  I ask both to move another day and get threatened by one the the other moves her car by driving across my blvd and lawn to effect the move.

I get set to mow the grass, nice day have one beer when I get home and neighbor 3 is parked on the grass in the few minutes it took to have a beer.  Pissed off, I mow as close as I can and scratched her car.  She comes out screaming at me.  I tell her, don't park there, your driveway is empty.  She gets into a snit and swears at me and I tell her to fark off and call her insurance.

She comes over a few months later asking me to pay her deductible and she is a uni student and all.  I call my agent and he says wait for the settlement and the princess will get her money. She starts yelling at me in front of my 4 year old and I tell her to fark off and send her dad over.  He's staying out of it, his daughter is nasty.

I think I will beautify the blvd this year and make 'em sorry to look out their window each day; art is in the eye of the beholder and I can legally do this.  What ever happened to common courtesy between neighbors?  If the parking were on their side, they would certainly Biatchhh at me but I would attempt to at least move without complaining and stay off the grass they have to mow.

Now they look like hillbillies 2 and 3 cars parked on their front lawns, which is illegal, all I have to do is call and they will get tickets for each infraction but I am too nice...

People don't realize that even in works of fiction, if your wish is granted, you don't necessarily get it in the way you want it.  You can't always have mashed potatoes without the lumps and when you do get it without the lumps, it's probably not real.

I get it, and it sounds reasonable.  But don't biatch when the towing company starts to get tow-happy when people have a tire on the gavel or on the yellow line.
