Mother Earth demands a four day work week.

2013-02-06 08:04:45 AM
Explains why it's always so cold in here.....

2013-02-06 08:05:20 AM
Well, looks like the postal service has that covered.

2013-02-06 08:06:41 AM
So laziness saves the planet now too?

2013-02-06 08:09:04 AM
Will we also get the European-style pervasiveness of nuclear power, as well? Because I know a lot of people who, if they worked less, would just be at home playing Skyrim, finally finishing that stupid ques...er, video games in general. Other people, I mean.

2013-02-06 08:15:11 AM
By going from 40 to 32 hours a week, can we make the earth 20% cooler.

/ that's right, damfarker . . . this is a pony thread now.

2013-02-06 08:15:34 AM
HaHaHaHa like that's going to happen.

2013-02-06 08:16:32 AM
Seems like it would help the unemployment problem too. If everyone works 20% less time, you need 20% more workers.

Seems legit.

That's as many as 40, and that's terrible.

What if you go to another building but don't actually do anything productive does that count? cause whether at home or "work" im still on the pc farking so its pretty much a wash to me.

2013-02-06 08:24:21 AM
From the correlation equals causation department...
Did anybody else here notice that the study was published ON A MONDAY?

2013-02-06 08:25:18 AM
Working from home has huge environmental benefits and it also results in more productive workers. Think about it, your putting less stress on infrastructure, which means less resources, which means less environmental impact which means less global warming. Fewer vehicles on the road means less pollution in the air and so on. It's inevitable that having people work from home is going to produce benefits for the environment. Less stress on the streets means fewer potholes, fewer car repairs, less pollution, fewer people with asthma etc, it all adds up in aggregate.

The benefits of working from home have been well documented for years by a number of studies. Yet employer after employer refuses to do so because of the perception that people working from home are slacking off. By having office workers telecommute one or two days day a week we could make more of a reduction in carbon than all of the priuses in the world ever could. But that is a real world solution and politicians don't like real world solutions.

/From an employer's big brother perspective they can typically monitor you more effectively at home than in the office.

2013-02-06 08:27:46 AM
Of course, taking the argument to the obvious ultimate conclusion, if everyone everywhere stopped working altogether we could end global warming entirely. Sure, we'd all starve to death as farms stopped being worked. And the fuel supply would run out in a few days in most places causing people to freeze to death. But at least we stopped that scary global warming, right?

2013-02-06 08:32:15 AM
That seems rather obvious, I don't know why a study had to be conducted on it. But it's not going to happen.

No, it's not going to happen because not going to work to cool the Earth is not a good idea.

2013-02-06 08:54:08 AM
You all are going to get fewer working hours as it is with the Obama Limit of 29 hours a week due to ObamaCare, at least for some companies. Oh, and enjoy that 29 hours of pay.

How can one have a 'liberal think tank'? I thought the entire purpose of a think tank was to go beyond and be free from political pressures in the first place.

All the think-tanks are political. The money has to come from somewhere.

Yeah, about that... You might want to look at the date and year when Obama took office compared to when the housing bubble caused by the flippers crashed.

I would gladly comply with working 4 days a week. And having a month of vacation in the Summer. If that was the case, I wouldn't be planning to retire at age 37. Yes, eliminate expenses and save and it is possible.

Goddammit subby, the good lord said there should be 6 days of work, so that's what we do. Anything less makes you one of them welfare queens, or a commie.

Al Gore is a washed up politician that deniers have an eternal hard-on for. Scientists do not care what he says or does.

Listen to the science ... not politicians (or bloggers or think-tanks).

Yes. The vast majority of the scientific community got together and decided to put their reputations on the line for one big game of punk'd.

And if you actually look up those quotes you'll see that most of them are taken out of context. Even so, no one has yet to explain to me why 99% of the scientific community is just farking with us.

An often repeated lie by deniers based on cherry picking of data and quotes taken out of context.

If deniers are just skeptics ... why is everything they post easily proven as dishonest?

really? show us a couple that are out of context, and provide the proper context.

love to know how this gem is out of context: "I'm sure you agree-the Mann/Jones GRL [Geophysical Research Letters] paper was truly pathetic and should never have been published. I don't want to be associated with that 2000 year reconstruction."

"97%" gets thrown around a lot, but I haven't seen a good explanation as to what that actually means.

97% agree that the earth is getting warmer?

97% agree that the earth is getting warmer primarily due to human activity?

97% agree that the earth is getting warmer and it may be due to human activity?

97% agree that the earth is getting warmer due to human activity as well as natural means?

97% agree that the earth is getting warmer primarily due to human activity and we should do something about it?

97% agree that the earth is getting warmer and something, something, something else?

97% agree on what, exactly?

Also, who are these 97%. Is it 97% of all scientists, of all climate-related scientists, of all climate scientists in a specific subgroup . . . which 97%?

/ seriously, who are they, and to what, exactly, do the agree?

Hopefully you're just entertaining yourself, because he's one of those types that consistently ignores direct questions that challenge his cherry picking.

There is no legitimate stance that could explain thousands of scientists risking their reputations in favor of a fabricated, liberal agenda. Unless "big wind" finally started their takeover campaign.

Cui bono?

Who stands to benefit if the scientists are right?

They're certainly unlikely to pull in the billions that their oil-based corporate opponents do.
