Yes.
And at Big Lots.
And this one time at Ross.

I've never done it though. Because while I'm not very smart, I'm smart enough to know that charges would follow.

Conversely, I've been out shopping with my nephews quite a lot, and I will guarantee you that I was close enough that no employee would get them over their knee in the first place, let alone get a swing in with a belt. Where the hell were the kids parents that this employee was able to whack the kid "25 times" before stopping?

On the one hand, if you're letting your 8 year old kid run around a store unsupervised, you're a terrible person and you deserve the beating. On the other, who the hell takes a belt to someone else's kid? And not even one that you know.

That's how you get ants!

This morning, I had to remind myself yet again that reading user comments from my local paper isn't a good idea.
Looks like it's even worse in Georgia.

Oh the other hand, what if the store clerk is right, and the kid is actually a demon?
Should we really be punishing someone for hitting a demon with a belt, which is the only known method of defeating demons?

Probably the fist solid ass whipping this kid ever got.

Chris Rock said it best:

"So you gotta look at OJ's situation. He's paying $25,000 a month in alimony, got another man driving around in his car and farking his wife in a house he's still paying the mortgage on. Now I'm not saying he should have killed her... but I understand. "

So, ya. I don't condone it.
But I understand.

I think after the first one the floodgates just open up. By the ten you couldn't stop yourself even if you wanted to.

Somewhere in the twenties your arm would start to wear out.

Kid:  "I threw a cookie at her"

Nice child-rearing there, Mom.  An adult says something to your kid and his first reaction is to throw something at them?

Dancin_In_Anson: Probably the fist solid ass whipping this kid ever got.

Yup.

I would not want to be the judge when that goes to trial.

I once saw my mother slap the hell out of a teenage boy at the mall for throwing rocks at us kids.  The other adults with us at the time, rushed us out of the mall for fear of being sued.  My mother, who had only been in this country for about 4 years at that point, didn't quite understand why they wanted to get out of the mall.

Horrible story, yeah, yeah, but I bet that little shiat doesn't throw another cookie at someone.

the article reads like this little shiat has had this coming for a long time. by age 8, you should know not to run amok in public or throw things at people.

OH HELL NO. I don't care WHAT my child was doing, it you raised a hand to MY kid, you'd better believe that the police would be coming AND an ambulance TOO to take your dead ass to the morgue because I'd have  BEAT YOUR FAT DOLLAR STORE MINIMUM WAGE EARNING ASS STRAIGHT TO THE GRAVE.

/and end ITG.
//thank you

have you seen the type of people who shop at the dollar store? This was probably a light beating compared to the ones the kid gets at home from his deadbeat alcoholic parents.

minoridiot: I once saw my mother slap the hell out of a teenage boy at the mall for throwing rocks at us kids

This is correct. If you seek to harm my child, you better back the fark up because I will cut you.

As far as the situation in the article goes, while that kid probably DID need a good solid scare, it's not a stranger's place to discipline that child. I always say, "A mother to one, a mother to all," but it's important to know your mothering limits. You can't hit them, but you can give them the Mom Look (tm). And if their parents aren't around, you can speak in low intense tones about how you don't waste cookies like that, you little ingrate. You do that one more time, you'll never have another cookie in your life. I'm a witch & I can see to that. *evil grin*

There are ways to mess with the little shiats without ever laying a hand on them.

FTA: Wrightsville Police Chief Paul Sterling said Logan was running around in the store and got into a confrontation with Bell, 39.  Bell told investigators that Logan threw a cookie at her and that's when she removed her belt, chased the boy down and spanked him behind the counter.

Sounds like that little shiat deserved it.  Maybe the mother should try some parenting for once, rather then assuming everyone else is responsible for your child.  If you miss a scene in a store with maybe 8 aisles that involves an eight year old flipping out, throwing cookies and a subsequent ass whooping, you are a crappy parent.

If the g'damn owner of the little animal were monitoring their behavior appropriately, the farking dollar store clerk wouldn't have to, right?

2013-02-05 12:54:10 PM
The kid? Never. That's abusive and wrong.  Their mom?  Sure, that will actually go much further to solving the problem of a bratty kid, and is kinda hot to boot

2013-02-05 12:54:22 PM
I was at the Goodwill one day near the base where I do my National Guard duty.  Some kid about 12 was running up and down the toy aisle with his arm straight out, knocking stuff off the shelves.I snapped at him, "Kid - knock it off!" His fat stupid cow of a mother was about 10 feet away looking at romance novels. When I snapped at her kid she turned around and said "I am watching my kid - you don't need to say that to him".  I said, in a voice dripping with contempt "and a fine job you are doing too."  About 10 people in the vicinity snickered at her when I said that and a couple said "amen" or "thank you!".  She was clearly pissed that the crowd seemed to be on my side not hers, and drug her unruly brat out of the store.

I'm sure no lesson in parenting, courtesy or discipline was learned by the egg donor that day, or her brat for that matter.  I wouldn't hit anyone elses child, but I'm too old and too crabby not to say something to the parent.

Therein lies the root of the problem, methinks.

Also stop using department stores as daycares.  That might help.

Not only that, but

The boy's mother and sister, who were also in the store, did not witness the spanking, according to the chief.

25 whacks on your eight year old child, and he's screaming, and you still don't see it? I don't believe in helicopter parenting, but what the hell?

They had a piece on the news this morning and they had an interview with the little devil himself.

His voice was an EXACT match of the kids from Ricky Bobby Taladega Nights. "How much you want for that weed, old man?"

I think that beast of a child got what he needed to have been receiving at home.  Bad parenting, shiatty little brats, and a society that wants to coddle children until they're ruined for life... a perfect storm.  I hate bratty kids.  And the little shiathead was obviously not hurt that badly.  The sad thing is, he didn't learn the lesson he needed to have learned.  He'll probably be robbing dollar general stores within the next few years.
