NHL.com sells one with a plastic base that operates via a remote control puck.  I believe it is mountable too.

Why yes, I did get drunk and order one.

OH MY GOD.

I want one.

I've heard about 30-40 people talking about this and 2 people mentioning the discontinuation of the penny in the last day and a half. Well played feds, well played.

My concern is where/how it gets the score. It'd be pretty annoying to have the thing going off 5 minutes after you watched the goal on TV. Or, for people like me, 2 minutes before the stream catches up.

Wifi with an app on your phone/tablet. I woulD assume if you had a good connection it would be pretty spot on. Is it just Canadian teams is what I'm wondering. Either way being drunkenly awakened by this would be funny

Yeah, but what source does it use for a score? Does it plug directly into the NHL stat feed, and is that updated for goals within a few seconds of them happening?

More important, why did this only show up in Canada? Bud also had that amazing flash mob ad last year that only played in Canada. I know it's hockey and all but it would still appeal to a general sports market in the US -- especially the rec league hockey flash mob from last year.

Do you honestly think the mouth breathers that drink Budweiser here in America would be their first target demographic?

Yeah, I have the same concern. Even when I'm watching CBC over-the-air I can still hear my neighbours yell 5 seconds before I see the goal. Then I get mobile app updates of the score about 3 minutes after the goal.

There's no way this is timed perfectly, and without perfect timing it's pretty useless.

You could probably program it to go off to whatever, though, which would be a lot cooler than it being a proxy goal light. Though I'm not sure what a good thing would be. Hook it into your doorbell? Only if you hate yourself. Put it on your headboard and when the banging hits a certain tempo it goes off? Sync it to a motion detector and pretend you live in a secret installation whenever a cat goes by?

Kinda wish I would have read the thread before I went and ordered one...Oh well, I don't spend money on myself often. Hope it's fairly tight to real-time.
