While it may seem fairly innocuous to civilian eyes, that's a pretty big no-no in naval circles. It's like pointing your gun (loaded or not) at somebody at a shooting range. Doesn't matter if you were farking around, if the gun was unloaded, whatever, you're farkin' up and they're right to be pissed.

The article says it better than subby's header:
Japan lodged a formal protest with the Chinese government on Tuesday after it said a Chinese warship directed a radar used to aim missiles at a Japanese warship, in a new escalation of a standoff over disputed islands.

Provoking China is a really really bad idea, They are ITCHING for a fight over here, Japan has a few things the Chinese would like to get a little payback on.

// Just arrived into Beijing, Ill be here for half a year so Id really rather they didnt start anything.

I have my money on Japan in any kind of conflict that is primarily naval and aerial.  Japan has all the brand new western toys ranging from the F-15 to SM-3 missiles.  Plus they make all it domestically under license, so they wouldn't even need to wait for the Americans to drop more off.

Plus with the USN likely being on their side, they'll have full sea lane control and we can feed them raw materials.

/the Japanese military is definitely a top 5 military, likely a top 3, their only really limitation is force projection
//which is not an issue when you're fighting in your front yard

Also somewhat related was I thought aircraft would play "tag" with guys on the other side via targeting him and holding the lock.  The game was get a lock on the other guy before he gets into a spot to fire missiles at your ship.

My understand was the golden rule was "Don't fark with the other guy's flight ops, because if you distract them you might kill someone."

all i'm gonna say is that it was not uncommon for soviets and USN ships to play silly buggers with fire control systems while in the med.

What do you think the bridge to nowhere is for?  They will buy it and airlift it for the invasion.

Ummmmm...this is a BIG deal.  The cornerstone of east Asian stability is a pacified Japan.  China is doing their damndest to poke the monkey with a sharp stick.  One of these days, the monkey is going to get tired of it, and the world is going to wake up to a nuclear Japan, hell bent on recreating the Imperial Fleet.

Seoul, and Taipei would immediately follow suit.  There's no way Korea will ever think of allowing a nuclear Japan without their own nuclear deterrent.

China needs to sit down, STFU, and quit acting like a bully.  Lest the "victim" remember that they spent decades giving said bully atomic wedgie after atomic wedgie, and deciding that maybe its time to give it another go.  A rearmed and pissed off Japan would cause infinitely more trouble for the world than a nuclear Iran.

I think the Japanese are smart enough not to get involved in a Land War in Asia.

They'll keep it naval/air force, and they'll kick ass.

Dear Japanese Imperialistic War Monger:

We are sorry that we accidentally launched a small yield nuclear missile at Tokyo  it was supposed to be a dog going into orbit.  Our bad.

I'd bet on Japan here. It's like the quiet kid in school that was institutionalized a few years ago for murdering all of his classmates. You don't want to screw with that kid, no matter how well-behaved and polite they've been since they were pronounced safe to re-enter society.
