accelerus: What a shiat article about a shiat part of the country.
MisterRonbo: Dogpatch? Are you friggin' kidding me?What a hole. Good public transit connections (particularly the CalTrain at 22nd), so that might be why it made the list. But please. You can't walk around at night, and I'm not a small guy. Likely to get whacked in the head by some kid with a golf club for your phone and wallet. Occaisonal gunfire at night. I had three murders on the street within a three block radius while I lived just outside Dogpatch in Potrero Hill. The building I was in was like a fortress complex - high fences topped with barbed wire, heavy thick doors sealing the entrances and garages. And you're a freeway exit down from the actual City. Want to go to to North Beach? $15 cab ride each way, and good luck getting a can to even come out and pick you up. Or take your chances on the Third street Muni line.Maybe in another decade as China Basin gets built up.The hot neighborhoods are what they always have been - Marina, Cow Hollow, North Beach (if you can live without parking). The Inner Mission or SOMA if you need to commute south (and pick your block carefully). Noe Valley if you want some peace and quiet. And when you find all of those are too expensive, you move to the Tenderloin and tell yourself its "Lower Pac Heights"
TotallyHeadless: Is SF proper really the tech startup hub? Or is it more the South Bay? I wouldn't want to commute 50 miles everyday just to live in the city if I'm spending all my time at the startup. Unless by tech they mean internet startups only and you can work from home?
