Whatever. It wasn't nearly as exciting as the last two BCS bowls.

I would think Super Bowl II would have that record.

But the Super Bowl record for most touchdowns scored while reciting the Pledge of Allegiance and doing the Macarena still stands.

Yeah, but does anyone know how to change an average drink to awesome?

Yeah, sorry Suggs.  Definitely not the best one ever considering it was practically over until we couldn't watch it for over a half hour.

Elegy: Whatever. It wasn't nearly as exciting as the last two BCS bowls.

It was actually a lot more exciting because you knew the two teams in the game earned their way through an also much more exciting playoff. Even if this game wasn't your cup of tea the entire NFC playoff race was better than the BCS

Too bad it didn't tie the record for most records tied or broken. Then you could say it broke the record by virtue of tying it.

/whoa

Check your snark detector, it might be faulty.

/all in favor of playoffs
//last 2 BCS championships were shiatshows

I wish I did, but I keep trying to compare indie rockers to random guys in Brooklyn.

/What's up with those? I feel like they stay there for days and you can't comment. I assume we're supposed to just be ignoring them?

The worst part to me is the no commenting. For days now I have wanted to shout from the roof tops that whiskey stones don't work.

I give a ton of credit to whoever decided to keep comment threads off those. They're easier to scroll past that way.
Now do the same for _ _ _ threads.

They don't? I had someone telling me they were great this weekend. They aren't a farker though so I assume they know nothing about good whisky drinking. What's your opinion on them?

I think this piece says it best.

I should add that in my initial statement, "don't work" should have been followed by "as well as other means." The stones will cool the whiskey a little, I guess, but the effort associated with them just doesn't make it worth it. Unless the goal is to say, "What? These? They're whiskey stones!" before launching into a lecture about how cool you are for having them. And again, that's just, like, my opinion, man. :)

I'm pretty sure the first one has that beat.

Super Bowl XLVII broke the record for most records broken or tied at a single Super Bowl

Seems unlikely that they broke the number of records set in Superbowl I.

But Super Bowl I didn't break any records, it merely established them.

That seems about right. The chap who was laying praise on them this weekend seemed almost disappointed when I told him I'd heard of them before and a couple came with my holiday bottle of Glenfiddich.
I was still treated to strong endorsement of their greatness but noticed he had some trouble finishing a glass without catching a stone to the teeth.

hey you know what impressive?

among franchises that beat other super bowl winning franchises (at the time of the game) in the super bowl (13 franchises have done it), the Ravens hold 2 records:

1) first to win their first trophy against a super bowl winning franchise on their first trip to the super bowl in 2001 (the Redskins first won it in 1983 vs. Miami after first losing the SB 10 years prior, the Broncos first won it in 1998 vs. Green Bay after first losing the SB four times)

since they did that, two teams followed suit (Tampa Bay vs. Oakland 2003, New Orleans vs. Indianapolis 2010)

2) first to win multiple trophies against different super bowl winning franchises (only 3 other teams have won it against a super bowl winning franchise twice and all were against the same team: Dallas won twice vs. Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh won twice vs. Dallas, Giants won twice vs. Patriots)

I don't see how the 49ers having won Super bowls ~20 years ago makes the Ravens win this year more impressive

Also some of those were really stupid records. If tying the record for fewest rushing touchdowns at 0 counts, there's a lot of other things that should count too. How about fewest holding penalties called? Or fewest players kicked out of the game?

it's more the rarity and the fact that it hasn't been done before, even the niners only ever beat 1 franchise that had won a super bowl before they played, you would think super bowl winners would meet eachother in the big game more often throughout nfl history

the ravens also handed two franchises their first ever super bowl loss, so there's another piece of meaningless trivia

I have come to the conclusion that you are guaranteed to be in the record books a couple of times just by being part of a Super Bowl.

Number of Safeties by a Team
Number of Kick Return Touchdowns by a Team
Number of Punt Return Touchdowns by a Team

For the first two of these, the record is 1. You will either tie the record for fewest, tie the record for most, or break the record for most. For punt returns, the record is 0. Just showing up gives you a tie for the most. The article didn't include this record, so maybe the record hasn't been officially *set* until somebody gets the first one.

AdamK: Dallas won twice vs. Pittsburgh

Pittsburgh only lost once to Dallas, Neil O'Donnel threw 2, yes TWO stupid interceptions.
That was Superbowl XXX. Pittsburgh beat Dallas twice.

Superbowl I established all the records, but also broke many of the records it had had recently established, many several times as the game progressed. Superbowl II broke many of those records, and broke many of the 'game total' records that Superbowl I could only establish. I'd give the nod to Superbowl I, but I've already put more thought into this than a poorly written headline deserves.

Those are the ones where two teams that win a popularity contest play each other right?
