What a blatant ripoff of Whacking Day, which started in 1924 as an excuse to beat up the Irish.

We need a similar program today to save the birds. Rarely see a bird nesting in my neighborhood anymore, but we've got craploads of feral/semi feral cats.

Then again, all the cats bring in the coyotes, so I guess it's the circle of life or something.

I'm so glad this wasn't what I first thought when I saw the headline, that those kitties that the kids were bringing in were immediately put to death.  That would make the pic so much creepier.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that's exactly what happened.  They just put a cute spin on it in the papers.  They were likely 'made pets by the children' for as long as it took them to drop them off at the SPCA in exchange for 'an entertainment'.  As soon as the kids were out of site the kittens were probably drowned or burned alive.

Cheers!

That was my take-away from the article, but let's just pretend all the kitties were adopted and lived happy lives in front of the fire.

I'm guessing about a month later, they realized the rodents, previously kept in check by cats, were responsible for the spreading of illness.

Then, upon killing the rodents, they discovered keeping the cockroaches in check was indeed the rodents.

Yeah. The last time we tried this "brilliant" idea, it didn't work out too well.

Puts me mind of other roundups from that era.

But if you kill all the cats what takes care of the rats that were eating the roaches that were eating the dead babies hidden in attics to hide teen pregnancies.

This is why I support mothers eating the fetus and post birth tripe.

Yeah, but then you have to deal with all the damage from the falling anvils, stones, pianos, safes, etc...  Do you know how long it takes road crews to repair those holes?

Rollerkoaster -

I used to think people who ran over animals on purpose were a**holes - then I, while on foot, was hit by a car and, during my on-going recovery, changed my mind.
People who purposefully use their cars as weapons (or flee an accident) aren't a**holes - they are responsible for more pain and terror than they will ever know and beyond redemption on that score.

If you feel it is your right to target animals you don't know and who may be pets? why don't you just be a man and be humane about it? No, wait - its much better to have someone find a half-dead body or, better, their pet left in the road - by you

You are not worth any more regard or reply

When you respond to a "storytelling" troll by indicating that you believe his ITG bullshiat, you give him his stinky little payoff. Don't be that guy.

They repair them?  Here they just fill them in until they have to fill them in again.

Lighten up, kids.  He hates cats, but hasn't run over any.  He traps them humanely and calls Animal Control.  The rest is all in your fevered minds.
