Heard a Super Bowl producer on the radio this morning. He said during and after Beyonce rehearsals they were having the same issues. Obviously, whatever they tried to fix didn't work.

Weren't they bragging beforehand about how this would be the "greenest" Super Bowl ever?  Maybe that explains it.

i doubt it would be more than 10 years.  nola seems to have the superbowl roughly ever 5-10 years.  this time it was about 10 years apart.  nola is a good city for the game.  it hits all the NFL points.  easy access, close hotels, restaurants, bars.  the city will  cooperate with the NFL.  the cops are the best crowd control cops in the country.  a large enough airport.  and a city that can take 200,000+ people without breaking a sweat.

i think the power outage is really not that big of a deal.  i mean, nola can take on the bcs championship, the final four, the good knows what else.  it's a proven track record with this one little 34 minute blip.

Also known as a protective relay functioning as it should. My guess is a current imbalance triggered the protection. Probably some load imbalance blew a fuse panel and the safety system saved everything downstream.

Well, that and it competes with Jacksonville... and Jacksonville is still Jacksonville.

I have a feeling it was the shiat-tacular half time show. They have played many regular season games and more than a couple bowl games there without issues.

Say what you want but I firmly believe they were trying to hard on this half time show with the "oh shiny" distractions from the women on stage who really didn't sing very well. Beyonce or however it is spelt.

carnivale in new orleans was put on hold for the super bowl.  you can't really have both going through the city at the same time.

btw, nola's been chosen 10 times, tied with miami.  carnivale is not the only reason.  the reasons i stated above are all compelling reasons.

2013-02-04 01:06:31 PM
It also made Super Bowl History last night as the fastest that Entergy has ever responded to a power outage.

2013-02-04 01:23:04 PM
My guess is that it was a problem in the electrical system from old Katrina damage. There was probably a circuit or wiring that was passed over during the repairs because it was either a non-critical fault or didn't appear to be problematic. Fast forward 6 years and non-critical has become critical and the stresses from plugging and unplugging the Beyonce show electronics finally takes its toll and the system overloads.

The second half of the game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Baltimore Ravens had just gotten under way when a static boom sounded from the speaker system...

Is this what happens when a jet exceeds the speed of sound while sitting absolutely still?

Figuring out that fuse panel blew isn't the tricky part. Figuring out what caused the fuse to blow is.

Did a squirrel eat a power chord? Or Is the building just not designed to handle handle the demands put on the stadium during a superbowl?

Katrina was nearly 8 years ago, and the Dome has been refurbished top to bottom since then.  I don't think there is anything left of pre-K electrical systems.

My guess: it was right after halftime. They probably had additional generation capacity in place for the halftime show and they turned off or unplugged a whole section. System destabilized, boom - relays cut out power. Had to find resets for all the tripped panels so 35 minutes added up.

Last time a San Francisco team was down big to an opponent in a championship, Loma Prieta happened. (You could kinda say they were down to the Angels, but they were only down 2-1 in the Series and still had the next two at home). San Francisco does NOT take losing lightly.

/though they still eventually lose

I commented at the SB party I was at that it is really easy to avoid lip syncing if you don't even bother to try to sing for 60-70% of the show. Seriously, it was basically a Krumping routine with Beyonce gasping out a few words every now and again with the vocal track going on behind her.

Please Goddell should get on his knees and blow the tehnician or maintenance engineer that caused the short.  A game that was on it way to being reminscent of the mid-eighties snoozer -type blowout, suddenly became on of the most thrilling games in SB history thanks to the extra Half-hour  the 49'ers QB coach had to get his rookie chilled out and re-focused.

The media half.

All I remember seeing on WWL and WDSU's facebook pages were something along the lines of "Will we ever get a Super Bowl again?"

But you're right, most locals seem pretty much what you just described.
