Three rules to avoid commercial controversy:

1. Be handsome

2. Be attractive

3. Don't be unattractive

I think it's interesting how women seem to be much more uncomfortable with this than men. Who generally don't give a fark.

We're used to watching porn, and mentally editing out the guy.

hasty ambush: monoski: I found the entire collection of commercials lacking this year.

Agree.  The E-trade baby was good as expected but has been better.   O the whole they were meh to bad

To this day I hate all baby commercials.  Mostly because of the one where the baby pukes in the middle of whatever it was saying.  No, I don't have kids.

Still wondering if the mic'd it incredibly close or if it was foley with someone slapping two giant gobs of whale blubber together.  It was gross sounding, is what I'm saying...

espiaboricua: Pentaxian: I cannot be the only one who thought that Mercedes-Benz's choice of song that has the lyrics "Rode a tank, held a general's rank, when the blitzkrieg raged and the bodies stank" a curious choice for a German car company.

It was done ironically.

I hate to be the irony police, but it wasn't even raining.

So what you're telling me is Hollywood producers, directors and screenwriters tend to cast awkward and seemingly hopeless Jewish kids as unlikely heroes as a way to vicariously reinvent their youthful past?

It sounds a bit far fetched to me.

It still bugs me when the guy has a crooked dick or when they do a closeup of his face. Not enough to turn it off, but still, nobody wants to see that...

My favorite is the two-tone dick. Like a 70s station wagon.

I hate baby commercials with them having an adult voiceover thats supposed to be clever and funny but is just not. CGI for making a baby talk is also creepy. If I ever found a real baby that was talking like an adult I'd farkin freak.

Agent to ugly guy: "It's $20,000 to make out with Bar Refaeli in a commercial!"
Ugly Guy: "Sounds great, but I don't have that kind of cash."

'Controversial' is rapidly becoming one of those lazy journalist weasel words that they use to avoid doing any actual, ya know, journalism.

Anything evenly mildly out if the norm is a 'controversy.'  The nature of the controversy is never explained, nor it is ever resolved.  It"s the new 'some people are saying.'

Of course the breathlessness with which the 'controversy' is reported is almost directly inverse to it's actual importance.

I still don't even know what that ad was about.  Aside from the fact that this woman will degrade herself for an appropriate sum of money.  Nothing earth shattering there I guess.

Now, Doritos on the other hand... has convinced me to never buy a goat.  Not that I would... again.

How was the ad controversial? It was 2 people kissing.
