I for one hope this funeral cremation is in accordance with what they think his dying wishes might well have been.

I can never read Sihanouk's name without thinking of the description of him in Swimming to Cambodia as the "happy, sexy, sax-playing prince."

As a surfer, he explored the beaches of Southern Cambodia, from Kampot to Kampong Saom and up to Krong Kaoh Kong

Ah, yes.  The man who sold his people out during the Vietnam war to fun his hedonistic lifestyle.

That prince was one of the slipperiest political movers in the history of man.  He makes Slick Willie look like a rank amateur.  This is a guy who managed to switch sides to the winning side right before their victory became obvious every time.  When he was out of power, he always seemed to end up on the side that would be in power - and not because he was leading them.

Hard to judge his motivations, though, because every move he made came as the best alternative to being killed.

/Cambodia is among the most tragic stories ever.  Fark the Khmer Rouge.

Insofar as I may be heard by anything, which may or may not care what I say, I ask, if it matters, that you be forgiven for anything you may have done or failed to do which requires forgiveness. Conversely, if not forgiveness but something else may be required to insure any possible benefit for which you may be eligible after the destruction of your body, I ask that this, whatever it may be, be granted or withheld, as the case may be, in such a manner as to insure your receiving said benefit. I ask this in my capacity as your elected intermediary between yourself and that which may not be yourself, but which may have an interest in the matter of your receiving as much as it is possible for you to receive of this thing, and which may in some way be influenced by this ceremony. Amen.

For all his consciousness raising about prostrate cancer because he had it, the man/king dies of a heart attack at age eighty-fricking-nine.
