Yeah, right. Hockey. That's a real cute sport. Especially the way you bounce the ball off your sticks. I don't like any sport where you don't use your hands.

uh that would be soccer.  you use you hands to hold the stick in hockey.  kindof like how you use a bat in baseball

This just leads me to believe that hockey would be a lot more entertaining if it could afford to endless amount of HD play-by-play analysis that football can to dramatize it a bit.

As a hockey fan, let me apologize for Subby's and announcer's hyperbole, and clarify... that was not even CLOSE to being "save of the year" - it was a nice save on a poor shot where the goalie was left out to dry by his defense. We have already seen some awesome saves this shortened season, including a glove save swiping the puck out of the air just before it crossed into the goal.

A "Save of the Year" is reserved for those second or third efforts by the opposing team, that, by all rights, should have completely beat the goalie clean, except for an amazing feat of acrobatics to shift from one side to the other and still have the ability to scoop a puck out of mid-air.

Throwing your leg out to stop a half-hearted attempt to shove the puck in the side is pretty average, and happens all the time.

As a hockey fan, and more importantly a Devil's fan, let me slap Subby.  Moose played awesome in that game, but that was hardly even his best save of the year so far.

That one will be on the WTF Goals reel for the year.  I loved how Carlson was just doing a shoot in and peeling to the bench for a change, and was more than half way to the bench before he figures out what happened.  Also classy there was no celebration at all.

Best was the goal scorer spotlight coming on at the VC as he's sitting on the bench.  That and it happened about 2 seconds after the Pens fan beside my wife had just stopped talking about how bad Holtby sucks.

/Holtby is having issues this year
//One of them is NOT letting an inanimate object score on him

You have to admit, he got a lot of help from the guy on the breakaway...  roof that shiat and he wouldn't have had a chance.  To my mind, "save of the year" involves taking away a goal that you had no right to prevent.

Yeah, hockey really needs to figure out how to present the TV package better. Fox tried, but the fans hated it.

With modern cameras I always wonder why the NHL still resorts to those old side camera's in the stands. They should mount cameras in the boards, the goal posts, hell put them in the goalie masks. Then show those angles live. How cool would it be to see what the goalie is seeing?

Because people who watch hockey, you know, fans...  want to see the game, not just close ups of the guy with the puck.  If you cut too much in any sports presentation you lose the geography.  It'd be no fun if the only think you knew at any time was what the puck carrier was doing.

That being said, I don't mind the high angle behind the net camera position for powerplays.

New technology will have to be used like it's used in all other sports, for replays.  Imagine watching an entire football game cutting back and forth from the side angle to that wire cam doohickey they have.  It'd be too confusing.

Except that there's about a 99% chance that puck was over the line.

I'd call it Inconclusive Goal Evidence of the Year.

All the saves of the year thus far have been made by refs calling phantom interference to disallow goals.

Those two on Saturday were incredible.  It was unbelievable how they quick they pulled those calls out of their asses.

Definitely a good save.  Physics says it was a goal, but there's no way to "prove" that of course.  Still, nice save.

The best plays this year have been from the abysmal calls by the striped shirts.   Absolute joke. (Erskine's headshot on Simmonds, and then the ensuing ejection of 2 players for fighting thanks to a phantom puck drop is a great example)

Since Holmstrom retired, the refs have had to find a way to make up more calls this year so the average doesn't fall too much and put a spotlight on what was really happening.

Blame Bettman.

I don't watch hockey all that much, so I decided to look it up on YouTube.  I typed in "Lehtonen" and the first  suggestion was "save" and this link.

Nice work.

Clearly Holtby screwed that up by leaving the net a second too early. But he can't take 100% of the blame, it was a weird as hell ricochet, and goalies anticipate the location of ricochets all the time.... that bounce results in a goal at least 25% of the time I bet.

To be fair to the Leafs, I think they got screwed on that overturned goal late in the 2nd. I would not have called that a kicked in goal. I can see why they called it that, but there was no effort to kick it in. He was just trying to stop.
