fnordfocus: JSam21: Way to RTFA... they will still respond if there are injuries. Lots of police departments do this. When you don't have enough officers and a phone report will suffice, why rush people over there?I read the article, just don't believe it.CPD hasn't responded to most of these things in decades, but they feel the need to order an article up, so something's obviously changing.
Loren: I've found their definitions don't always agree with mine, though. More than once I've called in on 311 over road hazards and had the call redirected to 911 even though it would be very unlikely for the situation to have ended up with anyone bleeding. I don't really think anyone was going to be seriously hurt by the street light pole lying in the road (I really wish I knew what happened to cause it to be laying there--the ground around it's anchor point showed no signs of a vehicle having plowed through it!) and it was many hours until darkness, yet they treated it as a 911 rather than 311.
NFA: It's always amusing to see the police knob gobblers defend the never ending incompetence, criminal behavior and outright corruption in police departments around the nation.God forbid taxpayers expect a little service from the police departments which consume a huge portion of their tax dollars. Police unions have argued that if we want good policing we have to pay cops better. Many urban police make $100k and more. Yet the incompetence has increased.
jehovahs witness protection: AverageAmericanGuy: If it was clear just what an "emergency" entailed, many people would call the regular police number instead of 911.I agree, but most people have no idea what the regular number is. I know I have no idea what number to dial.

fnordfocus: Let me predict -- fire and medical won't respond until the scene is cleared by Police, Police won't come, hundreds of extra people bleed out every week. And they charge a few people for tampering with evidence when they drive themselves or their family to the hospital instead.
