So if a reporter tried to barge into your home or office after being asked to leave, you'd stand aside and let him in?

Freedom of the press does not mean freedom from the law, regardless of what some reporters might claim.

He wasn't told he couldn't enter till after being punched.  Or is there a new version of the law where you can beat the crap out of somebody at random on your property then tell the to leave and it is legal?  Or is there going to be changes to the law that will allow you to go to the house of someone you don't want to come to your property and kick the crap out of them there?  Seriously, when do you think you should tell someone to leave, to when you are allowed to deliver violence?  Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from knowledge of the law, regardless of what some Farkers might claim.

buckler: I hope that reporter got the police involved; age is no excuse for thuggery.

He did get the police involved, the local rag has no online edition, but the dead tree article reported that police responded, viewed the entire tape where old dude told reporter several times to get off his property before punching him and decided it was a civil matter since you can use reasonable force to defend your property and Mr reporter wouldn't take the first 15 "git off my lawn dangnabits" as a hint.

Now the fact he is operating a used car business without a license and in the face of 3 separate court orders may land him in a bit of hot water....

I don't think I will ever tire of seeing pushy reporters get what their have coming.  This could only be improved if the reporter sustained a career ending injury and had no hope of collecting any damages.

Figured there'd be a bunch of "Woo! way to show that reporter, cool old dude!" comments.

This is Fark.

But from the standpoint of someone who's trying to teach his 2-year-old child that it's wrong to hit people, this just makes me feel sad.

You have a two year old.  You dont have time for sad.  All you get is frustration and exhaustion.

Besides, reporters are the second most punchable people on the planet, maybe third, they are in the top ten anyway.

It's not wrong to hit people. It's USUALLY wrong to hit people.

Big difference.

Besides if you have ever witnessed something that has been "reported on" you would have to assume that the only reason they ask people questions is to fark with them.  God knows they don't use the information they garner when they can make shiat up that will make better copy.  And they never do any research (insert journalists guide to firearms/dog breeds here).  If there is anybody that deserves to be beaten by the elderly its reporters.

When they're that young, you teach 'em that it's always wrong.  When they're old enough to understand, you teach them the truth.

Reporter put his hand on the man's door and was about to invade the premises after warnings, then gets a pretty nicely placed right cross to the chin.

That was an excellent punch. Justified too.

It looks like the reporter was trespassing. He didn't need to be told not to.

Abacus9: It looks like the reporter was trespassing. He didn't need to be told not to.

Yeah he did, a business is semi-public property.  Didn't watch the vidya, but did RTFA, and it says the reporter was at the guy's business - a place where the public is generally invited until they're specifically denied entry.

My take:  Good on the reporter for chasing down a scam artist, but sounds like douchebag investigative technique.  Good on the old man for dealing with a douchebag, but bad on him for stealing customers' tax refunds.  Total result: meh.  Rednecks.

True, but it sounds like the guy told the reporter to go away several times.
