Womens pants should be illegal everywhere, except when purchased by fat chicks.  Every decent looking chick should be showing her legs and be wearing heels.

When was this last enforced?

The restriction focused on Paris because French Revolutionary rebels in the capital said they wore trousers, as opposed to the knee-breeches, or the "culottes," of the bourgeoisie, in what was coined the "sans-culottes" movement. Women rebels in the movement demanded the right to wear trousers as well, but were forbidden to do so.

Really, France?  Really? You guys just got off my shiat list with the Revolution business.

/It was actually a pretty cool Revolution

Good thing pants aren't really in style among parisiennes right now, anyway.

This is why all laws should have a sunset, no more than 25 years after the law is written.  Old, unenforced laws would fall off of the books and legislatures would be too busy ensuring that murder remained illegal to pass stupid, useless laws.

funny that you should mention that. Jefferson was a huge supporter of a CONSTITUTION that expired every 19 years. Not just laws. The whole mother farking shebang!

I am always amazed by the amount of leg hair some women and men have. My hair isn't so thick. I guess I lucked out? I find too much hair on men (and all underarm hair) displeasing. I am glad I can legally wear trousers now in Paris, to which I have never been but would have worn trousers still as that law wasn't enforced.

Whenever I think of the French though I have an image of a naked Carla Bruni and beaufs due to my French classes. /not pretty

I am sure that if push ever came to shove, even under French law which is not common law system like ours, that the courts would have thrown out any conviction.   I am sure the city of Paris itself, by far more recent laws and regulations, requires many women to wear pants as part of a uniform.   As a general rule when two laws contradict each other, the more recent one wins (assuming they on the same level, but I doubt the no-pants law is in the Constitution).  Courts could also toss out a conviction on grounds of selective enforcement: you can't allow 99.9% of women to frequently wear pants and arrest one women for doing so.  And if the judge is a woman...  (Do women judges in Paris wear pants under their robes or do they even bother with robes?).
