When rocket launchers are illegal, only criminals will be able to launch rockets!

Wait, whut?

On a side note, just what do you hunt with a rocket launcher?

Isn't an unloaded rocket launcher just a farking metal tube at that point? Are they even re-loadable? They look like Vietnam era one-time use launcher tubes you can buy in the army/navy store next to the drilled out practice grenades.

Something designed to launch rockets is not a rocket launcher therefore there should be no regulations or restrictions on gun ownership.

Seems legit.

Every time I gave her weapons, she'd shoot me while trying to kill the bad guys.

Never give her anything more powerful than a pistol, or she WILL blow your ass up.

Hard to find ammo? Finding ammo to run over for a rocket launcher is easy compared to finding ammo for a BFG. And don't get me started on med packs.

I don't know about the LAW Trainer Tubes, but if you can get your hands on an AT-4 trainer, it's worth keeping. They can chamber a 9mm tracer or simunition round, making them a bit of a fun oddity.

When did Fark start this "featured partner" crap? And why can't we comment? You can't set up a site for uber cool internet hipsters and then when it becomes succesful try and change it to something else. That hipster quiz was Boobiesed from buzzfeed, and now it shows up from a different site, and on like every Fark tab?

The Farrticle didn't say which ones.

Mostly the trainers are dumpstered and retrieved  as show pieces.

it was explained in a TFD thread at the beginning of January:

"...they suggested that we try a six-month trial program to use sponsored links to Buzzfeed content in a static position on the main page of Fark and see how it does. This is pretty similar to what I've noticed Facebook is doing as of late, especially in mobile".

if you are using Adblock, you don't see those 'static, sponsored links'

That one is not reloadable, it's just a fiberglass tube.  If I recall correctly, the front sight had radium in it to make it glow in the dark.

Maybe the media should be mindlessly shrieking about unregulated nuclear materials?

No matter how useless it may be, anyone who would collect these is a dangerous lunatic and should be sent straight to the electric chair. It's pretty much equivalent to collecting and worshipping cadavers. We should, however, save and study the "brains" of gun "enthusiasts" to try to find out what is wrong with them and how to eliminate it from civilized society.

The bigger question is why police departments always proudly parade these empty tubes around after buy backs when they're useless scrap that aren't even legally firearms.

I wonder if I could glue junk on a spraypainted PVC pipe and get some free money too if all they're after is a PR stunt.

My workplace uses CAD plotters and the paper comes on super heavy duty tubes that I have been trying to figure out a use for. Now I know.

Paint them flat olive green.

Take to gun show.

Profit.

The only thing an expended LAW tube is good for is use as a firing tube for something home-built using Estes rocket motors and a liberal amount of beer.

they are just disposable one-shots. i have one exactly like it. i bought mine at a surplus store too. its just an empty fiberglass tube with flip-up sights, and they are not reusable for launching anything, no more so than any other plastic pipe.

people own lots of these things, they were common at surplus stores for years. they never counted at buy back programs, they would just laugh and send you away, kind of like with the drilled-out grenades. now they are more than happy to announce that they will buy them both; all of them turning up 'suddenly' scares the fark out of the sheep in the narrative to ban guns. makes for good press, and good fearmongering.

think about it; instant national headlines causing panic and forwarding an agenda, just accept any old junk at your buy back program.

They used to get sold off as surplus.  They are about as dangerous as a wiffle ball bat.

You've never been to an army surplus store? They used to be about 15-25 bucks. Plus they never got their hand on any weapon, just an empty used launcher tube. About as dangerous as a used roman candle.

The one pictured in TFA looks to be an M72A2 LAW (Light Anti-tank Weapon).   We fired them in basic training in the early 80s. Despite what the Wiki article implies, the tube can't be reused or reloaded. That was part of the appeal: the enemy can't reuse it. Most likely whoever was running the range that day (or was a training NCO with access to them) grabbed up a couple as souvenirs and snuck them off-post.

the cops know this, they know you can buy them down the street, they have known this for decades (i got mine in the early 80's).

the only reason they are taking them now is for media effect, which may be the exact intent of the organizations that are donating the money to these cities for the buy back programs.

Fortunately, none of the proposed laws seem to forbid high-capacity magazines for rocket launchers.

It's a fiberglass tube that's completely inert, completely legal to own and can not be re-used for anything other than an oversized drinking straw.

So no... It's no longer a rocket launcher.

That's about it.  My parents had an inherited .22 that my mother's uncle bought in a pawn shop in the 50s.  Thing was nearly seized up but they got $50 for it at one of these buy backs.

Or you could switch over to Halo, where the rocket launcher is probably the second-best melee weapon in the game.
