Wow, did THAT guy pick the wrong convenience store to rob! XD

One does not fark with a Gurkha, that should be right up there with getting involved in land wars in Asia and going against Sicilians when death is on the line.

2013-02-03 10:13:03 AM
That mugger found himself in quite a pickle.

I love that in the middle of it, he had the presence of mind to throw his cell phone to his wife to call the police.  I bet it was a perfect throw.

Need a hundred just like him at P.I., Quantico, and Pendleton.

The scary thing is Gurkahs aren't that tough these days, they're just tough relative to what crawls out of Siberia.

Imagine what would happen with an army of Rasputins.

"Private Jacovich, where are you going?"
"To take a little nap."
"Weren't you just hit by sniper fire?"
"Only three times, sir."
"Da? Oh well, take that nap. You can see the doctor later."

2013-02-03 10:54:16 AM
I messed that up. I meant to say Gurkahs are tough relative to Westerners, not what Siberia spawns.

Wasn't this from like a year or two ago? Or did it actually happen again?

abhorrent1: Wasn't this from like a year or two ago? Or did it actually happen again?

Article says it happened in October.  My guess is that this article is new, because it talks about the sentencing of the criminal.  So it's technically a follow-up, not a repeat.

Somehow the Daily Fail has decided that the Gurkha was so awesome, he deserved a completely new article with no mention of the previous article. That, or the same mugger failed to learn his lesson and attacked the same Gurkha again, and once again the Gurkha threw his phone to his wife to call the police.

Ah I thought I remembered it but wasn't really sure. Thought it was a lot longer ago than that but my head is full of fark, so it's not surprising.

How is this not attempted murder?

damn, what is it about ghurkas that get them stabbed with 6 inch knives so often?

2013-02-03 11:43:53 AM
An ex-Gurkha forced to defend himself when attacked by a man wielding a knife only realised afterwards a six-inch blade was embedded in his arm.

That's because this is what Gurkhas consider a knife:

While the Hero tag is good, we really need a special tag for stories like this.

How about a BADASS tag, animated with nuclear explosions, flexing muscles, Bruce Lee, and a kitten beating up Hitler.

namegoeshere: Gurkha = ninja?

No.  The difference is this: you can't see a ninja, so the ninja would easily sneak up and stab the Gurkha with a sword.  But, you can't kill Gurkhas, so at that point the ninja would have to run away from an angry Gurkha with sword sticking out of his head.

For all of you sniper-fellaters - this is what an actual hero looks like.

From reading up on it, it's what happens when you mix Eastern focus and martial arts and old school British soldiers. Think Asian death metal covering "The Trooper."

yes. 6 yrs for attempted murder while in the commission of a serious crime seams silly

I looked for the other train story, whence Mr. Gurhka fought off a train full of thieves, but only found the story of the Gurkha fighting off...    http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/236615/Hero-Gurkha-fights-off-30- T aliban-with-sandbag-and-bit-of-metal-

Gurkahs are what Chuck Norris dreams of being someday.

If you don't know the history of the Gurkahs, they're from Nepal. Back when the British Empire was conquering the Indian subcontinent, Nepal was one of the few territories to effectively hold out. The British only won through vastly superior numbers. After the dust cleared, the Brits were impressed enough to ask the Gurkahs to come work for them as elite mercenaries. Gurkahs that serve get British citizenship and paid extremely well compared to what the economy in Nepal is like. And for about 2 centuries now, the Gurkahs have been considered the toughest and most feared fighting unit in the world. They have a well-deserved reputation for continuing to fight and kill the enemy after getting limbs blown off in combat.
