Bluevirage: Baltimore. Where winnining a Super Bowl means celebratory gunfire.

Made a port visit to Baltimore when I was in the Navy. Easily the skankiest and probably the most dangerous place I ever visited, and that's counting lots of iffy places I served at overseas.

Top 5 that I remember. If I don't remember, they probably weren't great. I'll concede one per decade that I might not have watched or maybe I just completely forgot about them due to other influences.

Pats vs Rams 2001 : Pats jump out to early lead over the heavily favored Rams. Rams start to figure it out later in the second half and tie the game. Pats drive on short time to kick a game winning field goal
Rams vs Titans 1999 Titans are down by a few points and get tackled on the one yard line (short of the touchdown) on the last play of the game.
Patriots vs Panthers 2003: Highly touted defenses slug it out for almost the entire first half. They get winded, both teams put up a couple scores each in a few minutes before the half. Defense gets some rest at half time, ferociously defends for the third quarter, runs out of gas even earlier, both teams put up a few touchdowns. Game comes down to a field goal by the last team with the ball
Patriots vs Giants 2007 After playing each other in a meaningless game to end the season, the Giants solve the Patriots just in time for the Super Bowl to rob the Patriots of the glorious perfect season.
Ravens vs Giants 2000 Because I was happy for the Ravens for some weird reason
Giants vs Bills 1992 Wide right

Funny, because in the first image, it appears Crabtree is both holding and pushing off on Smith's helmet.  From the reverse view, you see Smith has a hold on Crabtree.  It looked like a lot of mutual contact.  Usually that's either a no-call, or offsetting penalties.  Refs went with no-call.

I'm gonna give Ray Lewis a break. Even if he murdered somebody, or if his friends did. I'm not saying he did, just that if it did that wouldn't disqualify him from my forgiveness. Him, with his money and his attitude, he probably has saved five lives.

Has anybody here saved five lives? I like to think I've helped out around whichever neighborhood I lived in. But I don't know if I saved five lives. I doubt it. It's simple math.

For the record, anyone complaining that there should've been holding called against Baltimore on the fake punt / safety...

What's your point? They call that penalty, and what happens? Holding in the end zone results in a safety. So, uh, whatever.

What you said, with the addition that the ball was uncatchable in bounds.  Had contact not been made, the ball still couldn't have been caught.

Which A) Doesn't matter for defensive holding, and B) is debatable anyway.  Even if the pass landed out of bounds, he could still have caught it in bounds.

If he wasn't being held he wouldn't have needed to push off, and that would have been easily catchable without the hold.

It's not a foul that stops the play, so the play continues just as long. Someone on facebook just linked to a college game where Iowa had an intentional safety against Penn State, and multiple Hawkeyes committed holding to stall the play. Probably should've been flags on the play but there would have been absolutely zero consequence to them.

Yeah, I guess I gotta go the other way then. It was a brilliant play. Why couldn't they just hold everybody and make sure nobody got to the punter before time ran out?

You can't tell me that with four run attempts from the 5 yard line, the 49ers don't score. Ultimately, bad play calling doomed them.

2013-02-04 12:53:42 AM
Okay. After giving it some thought, I have something to say...

Congratulations, Ravens fans. Your team earned the Lombardi this year.

Now, I don't think this was the BEST Super Bowl ever.... but, it WAS the most hilarious. The blackout is going to be the stuff of legends, and I'm glad I got to share (some of) it with everyone here. ^_^

Kudos to Joe Flacco on winning MVP honors! I've liked the guy ever since he beat the Cowboys in their last game ever at Texas Stadium. :P

Personally, I would have gone with Jacoby Jones for MVP, but, still, good for him. :-)

As a Broncos fan... to be honest, I don't feel that bad that we lost to you guys. Sure, we lost in Double OT, but now I know we lost to THE best team in the league this year. There's some comfort in that. For me, anyway.

I look forward to seeing you guys again. Stay safe, stay well, and keep Derpy Hooves AWAY from the electrical equipment.

A statement from Entergy and the Superdome:

"Shortly after the beginning of the second half of the Super Bowl in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, a piece of equipment that is designed to monitor electrical load sensed an abnormality in the system. Once the issue was detected, the sensing equipment operated as designed and opened a breaker, causing power to be partially cut to the Superdome in order to isolate the issue.

"Backup generators kicked in immediately as designed. Entergy and SMG subsequently coordinated start up procedures, ensuring that full power was safely restored to the Superdome.

"The fault-sensing equipment activated where the Superdome equipment intersects with Entergy's feed into the facility."
