The particles, travelling at around 575 miles per second - about 2.07 million miles per hour - will reach earth in one to three days.

Why are they providing an estimate of speed down to the mph when it can apparently be wrong by 200%?

It may actually take that long to pass by, so the particles in front hit in one day and the particles in back hit a couple days later.

There's two different units of measurement there.
