I have a spear.
I keep it in the spear closet.
In the kitchen. By the refrigerator.

well, in civilization 3 you could take down a tank with a spearman, so in terms of defending liberty against an oppressive government, maybe spears are the way to go.

Yeah, but concealed carry is going to be a bear.

What did we learn here? Weapons don't protect you from a sudden, unexpected attack (i.e. most attacks). ARMOR protects you. If I ever become the sort of paranoid who thinks he needs a pistol on him 24/7, I'm going to be wearing Dragonskin and a Kevlar helmet to the grocery store.

The mind is one's best weapon. It's a shame so many people walk around unarmed.

Tillison lunged at an officer with the weapon, striking the officer's right abdomen just below the ribcage, slicing through his Kevlar vest and piercing his skin. Officers then subdued Tillison and placed him under arrest.

Oh, just shoot this asshole.  Nobody will miss him.

I had an asshole come after me in a store a few days ago after some unkind words were exchanged in the parking lot.  The idiot had a 6-shooter in his back pocket.  Had it gone any further than even more unkind words in the store his pistol wouldn't have been of any help.  Armor, perhaps.

Technically speaking, weapons also aren't what's responsible or sudden, unexpected, attacks. It's humans.
Sometimes a single human that can be responsible for many attacks during his lifetime, and such is the case here.
This man is still likely to get out and attack who knows how many more before he's done. The cops armor only saved him (and just barely).

If you reduce the number of the people who like to lash out violently then you reduce the number of attacks.

/Armed society + Darwin = Polite society.
/Armored society + Darwin = more extreme use of violence.
/Predators must be culled.
