If you want to understand why...the U.S. economy continues to perform better than most people think, and why President Obama won the 2012 election,

Because B. HUSSEIN Fartb0ng0 and his cronies are cooking the books, and widespread voter fraud.

Lionel Mandrake: Because B. HUSSEIN Fartb0ng0 and his cronies are cooking the books, and widespread voter fraud.

White people like me were too afraid to vote this year because of the roving hordes of MS-13 and Black Panthers placed at polling locations by the Democrat party.

I voted for 0bama because I wanted a free phone. If I don't get mine soon, I won't vote for him as a president again.

The numbers are skewed by all the True Patriots taken in the night from their keyboards by Obama's UN Shadow Army and now forced to toil building the very FEMA Mandatory Gay Marriage Camps soon to be the home of every Romney voter, Limbaugh listener, Nugent-8-track-owner and Coulteronanist.

You're slipping, Fark.

I could've sworn all of that stuff at the NYSE is just for show now anyways. Most of that stuff can be done by pushing a few buttons on a keyboard these days.

That's two different things.

are you trying to trot out the U6 thing? discouraged workers and all that? don't forget, as boomers age, many, many are leaving the workforce due to retirement. that was a statistical certainty well before obama took office.

Explain to me how this excuse wasn't being used when Bush was touting the unemployment numbers for his term even though the labor force participation rate was going down during that time as well?

I'm all ears as to why this excuse has only been trotting out since 2009 even though the trend started back in the early 2000s

Every year, new people enter the workforce.  Enough new jobs have been created to occupy them, plus a bit extra to chip away at unemployment.  That's the trend you see in the unemployment figures.

But at the same time, people are retiring (or being pushed into early retirement in some cases) and their jobs are not being replaced.  That's the trend you see in the civilian labor force participation rate.

Another way to look at it is that the raw number of jobs available is not keeping up with population growth, but our aging demographics are taking a break from killing our budget and helping out for a change.

What Obama did was the only thing a politician can really do, which is borrow a whole bunch of money to keep the State and Federal budgets going and then sit back and wait for things to recover on their own.

We still haven't really recovered... job growth is still poor... but you can see it coming, and in the meantime we are getting an ironic boost from our aging demographics.
