Haha!

One short phone call? A real backtroll woulda stretched it out a LOT farther. And for an $800 crime, I assumed the home address they were seconds from getting was going to play heavily into the scheme.

I was expecting Nicole Oliver to have been involved.

I don't understand the concepts or words involved here, and I'm not sure I care to know them.

Heavy into a felony probably. Not worth taking it that far for, at the least, being sued for harrassment. This is America afterall.

I agree though, they could have done better. Moar public shame.

But the kid's already outed himself as a brony. There's a conundrum for ya.

Dear Princess Trollestia,

Today I learned about tempering justice with mercy. The kid received mercy in that they knew he wasn't necessarily a bad apple; jacking him with legal action for shill bidding would have been lunacy, and a public outing/doxing would have placed everyone in a legal twilight between "too far" and "not far enough." But he also received justice in the form of a heart all a-flutter, shy kid who's hopes were momentarily raised up, only to be dashed against the telephone equivalent of a pie in the face. It's a rarity to see two people so capable of keeping a straight face and a radio voice. No more, no less, the kid got exactly what he deserved.

Your still-giggling student,
Twilight Farkle.

Here's my question: What kind of parent lets their 15 year old get on EBAY and bid on things? Really? Who does that?

The troll was lame, but I understand you can only take it so far against a fifteen year old.

I agree with you and him, though.

Bronies could NOT be more ridiculous or stupid. They're still better and at least as smart as most sports fans.

Could you imagine if Nicole Oliver had called the kid up IN CHARACTER? Think about that for a minute.

His shock that someone would pay $800 for a 30-minute call from him was justified. He should have ran with that.

There should have been enough time for him to invite his three friends before a second phone call revealed the prank.

Also, his girlfriend is hot.

This was great. But it would have been better had the girlfriend been naked.

Minors can make contracts (buying and selling on ebay is a contract), but can also disavow them within a reasonable time. That would appear to be the case here.

Technically yes, BUT the responsibility is on the company to check IDs and prevent this from happening, not the kid. The company is SOL in these situations.

On paper, 20% cooler, but afterwards he wouldn't have been sure if he'd been trolled or rewarded. "Doesn't matter, talked to Celestia!" Now if she'd called him up in character and asked if he liked bananas...

That was pretty damn good, though it would have been better to not tell the kid over the phone.  Get his home address and send him an envelope with a return address from Hasbro.  Inside, include nothing but a note saying "I want my $800, you douche".

Also, everything about the girlfriend is weapons-grade hot.  Particularly her apparent indifference to mens' physical appearance.

No personal gain, the joke was revealed before the target could have taken any action on it, and no damage. No harm, no foul.

It was doing quite well until "Todd" took over. He nearly o-faced as soon as the gf handed the phone over, while she maintained perfectly virginal control the whole way through.

uhm

So now they owe him and three friends a trip to "Hasbro Studios" because any agreement you make with a minor is binding to YOU but not them.

What you do is you require the parents of the bidder, who MUST have approved the winning bid, to pay for the agreement the child made on THEIR account.

What happened, did you miss the contracts class when they explained that in order for a promise to be enforceable the promisee must rely on the promise to their detriment AND that reliance must be reasonable? Neither of those things happened here, and they owe that little Brony exactly nothing.

/If you're gonna come on here to try and sound smarter then anything else, get your facts right.

Kind of a meh haha.

If minors are using their internet access to do semi-illegal things like placing bids in auctions then not paying, they should get their internet access cut off. Then the idiot minor can explain to mommy and/or daddy why the internet access got cut off.

Vive le bronies, most of them anyway. The rest after that are tolerated.
