If the lid on his laptop was closed, would that mean he was in possession of a concealed weapon?

Musta been one of those deadly JayPeg-47s...

The kid should replace the image with the one of Obama skeet shooting.  That should cause a divide by zero tolerance error.

*NEWSFLASH*

Teenagers do stupid shiat to get attention.  Get over it.

2013-02-02 11:46:54 PM
gimmegimme:  Remember, gun fetishists: those who are for gun control are generally using logic and reason and aren't responding to a rush of blood to the genitals.

Ha ha, nice one, that's the funniest thin.. wait, you weren't joking?

2013-02-02 11:50:27 PM
Hmmm.....I wonder if people at school would love to see guns right now.

I bet money he was warned or flipped out on an administrator when told he should change it.

Especially the latter.

2013-02-02 11:50:44 PM
The picture shows an AK-47 on top of a flag.
[...]
McClaine said the gun is not his. He's interested in joining the military and said he found it on the internet.

Um...wrong military.  If you think everyone overreacted to you being a teenager who thinks edgy is cool then just say so.

2013-02-02 11:51:57 PM
This shiat has been going on for awhile.  When I was in first grade back in like '92 I got a stern talking-to from my teacher for bringing a plastic medieval sword to show and tell. I just grabbed it at the last minute cause I forgot to think of something more clever. Ended up not being able to show or tell about the damned thing because of school policy.

That's when I learned to hate policies.

2013-02-02 11:53:07 PM

eyeq360: It's a stinking picture of a gun.  What's he going to do with it?  Injure someone with pictures of a bullet?  Maybe he'll print a picture of it and go on a paper cut rampage.

You are kidding, right?  He could show it to someone and that person could be so traumatized that they run away and in their panic run into a picture of a car!  And if that happens you will feel ashamed that you made a joke out of this!

They should have tee shirts made up with  AK-47 written in large letters on both sides.

No graphics, just the letters and numbers.

Nina_Hartley's_Ass: If they've got a dozen kids in the whole school who make guns their desktops every year and eventually one shoots anyone anywhere they'll be asked "Why didn't you DO something???" so a warning, yes, then suspension. Of course, the school is prohibited from telling their side and we have to take the word of the student and the parent on what went down.

Yes, we don't have the other side's story...but really?  You're going with the "if they don't do SOMETHING" line?  How about stop treating every little infraction as if it's a crime?  We don't know the kid in this case so that may come in to play, but what about in a case where the kid has no prior history of trouble?  Could you possibly chalk that up to just being a dumbass teen, or is that deserving of punishment...for posting a picture...which takes all of 3 seconds, and doesn't predispose you to violent behavior.

SilentStrider: While the kid should have been smart enough to know better, this is asinine.

He is guilty of assuming that the school staff have common sense and are not a bunch of hysterical ninnies. He has learned a valuable Life Lesson. Always assume that the Full Retards are in control.

Always a very convenient constriction on the Authority Figure, isn't it? So passive-aggressive kid puts a picture of an assault weapon superimposed on an American flag as the wallpaper on his school-issued laptop. Now he is going to say he is being persecuted because sane people don't appreciate the country's flag being presented as a backdrop for this kid's dumbass gun fantasy. Poor kid.

2013-02-03 12:06:32 AM

Lidocaine: I hate these people.  I had some wonderful teachers in high school, but some of the administrators at school were simply among the dumbest people I've interacted with before or since (and I've been out of school for a while).  Seriously, no common sense, no common decency, and a total lack of contact with reality....How does this happen?

Yes, we have to keep kids from killing each other.  But this kind of thing is completely counter-productive.  So stupid.

You sound like a terrorist. I've already notified Homeland Security.

They can call it whatever they want, but non-violent protest in solidarity is a good disinfectant of tyrannical stupidity.

I like to think those subject or witness to this type of treatment will never repeat or support it.

Exactly.

Well, I suppose there is indeed a line between terrorism and "non-violent protest in solidarity" to serve as "a good disinfectant of tyrannical stupidity."

Destructor: Seriously... I think its time to bring back Rifle Clubs.

Or maybe we need to get rid of wood shop, and swimming, and anything dangerous.

I just did a short bit of googling and discovered that in 2010, 914(14.8%) kids from 1-18 died from unintentional injury in a swimming pool and 114(1.8%) died from unintentional injury from a firearm[1].  Clearly, our civic duty is to fill in the school's pool and turn it into a shooting range.

So according to Daniel McClaine Sr you should only get a three day suspension for actually standing in front of a school with a rifle...

totalitarianism was the reason people fled to this country in the first place. 0 tolerance simply removes the option for education and enlightenment and moves directly into punishment, often for ridiculous, fear induced, knee jerk reactions like this
