Yes. Yes. Obviously.

Although Bill does struggle with Oklahoma State sometimes, but that's only down there. In Allen KU isn't losing to OSU.

That game tonight puts me in the unenviable position of either hoping Michigan, who I just don't care for, or Tom Crean, who I just flat don't like, come out on top. I'm not sure what to do.

2013-02-02 02:59:38 PM
Yes, no, and yes.

Creen is on fire lately, and I think he'll use some of that Harbaugh magic to take down Michigan today. There's about a 99.999% chance of the other two being right.

PITT! That is all.

Michigan's youth/inexperience will be its biggest problem at IU.  They have 5 true freshmen either starting or getting significant minutes, 4 sophomores, and only one non-injured junior (Hardaway), and NO seniors who see the floor outside of garbage time.  They're talented, but young players don't tend to do that well in a hostile environment.  If you had the same group of players, but all were 1-2 years older, it'd be a different story, but right now youth is Michigan's achilles heel.

Though I love my jayhawks, it's still a complete toss-up as far as a title goes. No team is clearly better than the others in the top 8 or so.

2013-02-02 03:16:20 PM
Also, are people so tired of seeing the Jayhawks at the top that they default to saying Michigan is #1 despite KU holding that spot in the other major (coach's) poll?

In fairness, the coaches' pool was REALLY close---KU had 16 first-place votes and 760 points, to UM's 14 votes and 757 points.  The AP poll was less close---UM 51 to KU 13 for first-place votes.  I guess if you're aggregating those two results and had to pick only one #1 team, you'd go with UM.  It seems like that's what people are doing.  Either that, or the AP is always the gold standard.

Subby here. Figured WE don't need the #1 ranking at this point, so I might as well avoid Michigan whining.

Yeah, this is ugly.

Ok, that run made it a bit better, but I still don't like being down by six at home at halftime.

2013-02-02 05:09:57 PM
KU fan here.
As much as I like KU winning, they're playing really ugly.  They're winning close games and coming from behind, but it's becoming a bad habit.  One of these days, they're going to be behind and they're going to lose one of these days..  It might work against a sub-par team, but come later during the regular season or tournament time...first or second round knockout.
They need better perimeter defense for longer stretches instead of one or two possessions.  Opponents with a good 3-point shooter or two will score bunches if KU slacks off.  It nearly worked for Iowa State.
And their point guards, particularly Elijah Johnson, make too many stupid passes and bad shot selection.  Why jack a guarded 3-pointer early in the shot clock?  Why make telegraphed passes that Helen Keller could see coming?  Why the hell does Johnson make it a habit to throw the ball away near the end of the half and let the other team score?
I'm predicting that KU will win against Oklahoma State, but it's going to be another ugly win in the second half.  If not, I wouldn't say that I would be surprised.

2013-02-02 05:10:46 PM
I will say this about the rather meaningless debate between Kansas and Michigan over who should be #1: it's strange to me that so many supposed basketball experts are picking the team that's clearly better offensively over the team that's clearly better defensively.  We all know what wins championships. In football, nobody would have picked Oregon over Alabama.  I wonder how the vote would go if it wasn't such a novelty to have Michigan at the top.

What the hell happen to EJ this year? The guy has regressed in a major way, and it's killing KU's perimeter scoring and defense.

He's a 2 guard being asked to play the point.

Tell me about it.  I was listening to the game on the radio while coming back home and I heard he had the ball and it was nearing the end of the first half.
My first thought?  "Jesus Christ, he';s going to throw the farking ball away to a phantom teammate."
AND Elijah Johnson DOES exactly what I was thinking.
Could have cut the deficit down to two or three, maybe even have a chance to tie the game with a good defensive effort and a score. But no, EJ has to throw the farking ball away.
And KU can't hold onto the freaking ball when they rebound, which makes it even worse.  Too many could have and should have possessions.  Too many missed free throws.
A different KU team would be ahead and curbstomping OSU by double digits at halftime.  This one has to be behind and come back in the second half.

I think you're on to something there, and it's one of the reasons why the AP favors Michigan a lot more compared to the coaches poll.

Well, we've been playing with fire all year, and it finally caught up to us. Congrats to OK State- time to go eat some crow.

2013-02-02 06:10:23 PM
KU is blowing this one.  Had a lead, couldn't keep it.  Too many dumb plays, too many second chance points for OSU since KU can't block out.

So right now we're at No/?/No.  Hope Michigan can break the trend.

OSU and KU are now going into foul each other mode.  If this keeps up, this game might last a while.

Forget it.  Game over.  Elijah Johnson farked it up again.  Guess what he did?  Made a freaking turnover.  Could have gone for the tie...but he turned the freaking ball over.

When EJ is playing well, which he was about a month ago, they are the best team in the country, when he's not...they're this. They need him to figure it out, and quickly.

2013-02-02 06:24:15 PM
Guess we'll finally hear about Elijah Johnson's knee injuries...

We're basically a badass anaconda with no head this year.  The NCAA was wide open for the taking, too.  But without a point guard, we're completely vulnerable to a stupid early round upset.

Ugh.

2013-02-02 06:29:16 PM
The Allen Fieldhouse win streak is over, but the EJ End of Half Turnover streak is now at two.  Every time he turns it over at the end of the half, you drink a beer.  Or every time he gets the ball, you drink a beer.  In any case, at least you'll have a beer to console yourself when he messes up.  I would do "take a shot," but that might turn out uglier than KU's perimeter defense, or their offense recently.

We're just here to thank you for managing to out-choke us by losing to a 15 seed. I hold that game and the picture below dearly as a great example of instant karma.

Mizzou did. One of only 3 or 4 #2 seeds that have ever lost to a #15 seed.  And no, that list doesn't include Kansas.

/Michigan and Indiana are both quite good, but their interior defenses are lacking
