Bullshiat.
Republicans don't have affairs with women.

FTFA: The World-Herald said in its online additions Saturday that it discovered Sheehy made thousands of late-night calls to the women on his state-issued cellphone...Last July, Sheehy's wife, Connie Sheehy, filed for divorce after nearly 29 years of marriage. Her divorce filing stated the "marriage of the parties is irretrievably broken."

Obvious marriage problems. Sucks as a situation.  Sad for the family. His kids are already grown, so at least it will be easier on them.

Well whose wives where they? It is my understanding that unmarried women are prohibited by Nebraska state law from talking on the telephone between 1/2 hour after sunset until 1/2 hour before sunrise. This being to curb unwanted teenage abortions.

Don't much care about public officials being unfaithful to their spouses...but, c'mon guys, don't use state resources in your hunt for some strange.

The World-Herald said in its online additions Saturday that it discovered Sheehy made thousands of late-night calls to the women on his state-issued cellphone.

Some Massachusetts officials caught a break when the state switched them to non-itemized cell phone records.

A little over a year ago the Lieutenant Governor had a late night wreck. Police tried to cover up the details but newspapers insisted the "black box" was a public record. He went off the road at over 90 mph. Then newspapers tried to get his phone records to see what he was up to that night. Lucky for him, the state does not have an itemized bill. The state could ask the carrier to create one, but the public records law does not require creation of records. It offers access to existing records.

The phone records will likely come out after he is indicted for campaign finance violations. He was up late because one of his big donors got caught committing an unrelated felony. He couldn't sleep because he knew the guy would flip.

Do these people not understand that you can now go buy a cellphone for 30 bucks and never have to give your name?

So I guess he's resigning to spend more time with his family, then?

Well...yah. What else is there to do in Nebraska?

Oh, you mean the Boston Herald that ran the story for like 3 months trying to make it into a scandal?

I don't give a rat's patoot about his personal life, but, yeah, using the company phone shows poor judgement. Next up: Emails are coming out.

Exactly. Your private life is private. Just don't have the taxpayers foot the bill.

Most government plans should be unlimited minutes and texts, so there shouldn't be there any added cost to the taxpayers if they are properly negotiating their contracts.

2013-02-02 05:54:38 PM
Is this really a big deal?  Peoples private lives should remain private?
I do think he should reimburse the government for the phone bills of course but I hardly see this as something he should be forced to resign over.

It was asinine when republicans tried to impeach Clinton over his private life, and its just as asinine now.

I'd like 60 minutes of service from her, but I doubt I could afford 90 sessions...

Wow, cell phone calls!  Talk about crazy!  Everything in Nebraska is boring, including the philandering.

2013-02-02 06:36:55 PM
Damn.  Nebraska's Lt. Gov is showing actual signs of shame and resigning (over something he really shouldn't need to resign for) while 5 links down Kansas is suing for the right to turn itself into a third world hellhole.

I feel like I should be sitting on a lawnchair with a shotgun in some corn field outside Falls City to make sure the derp can't migrate north across the border in the middle of the night.

2013-02-02 06:43:57 PM
Wow, big fail on my part. I follow politics pretty closely, and have lived in Nebraska for over 30 years, and this is the first i even realized we had a lieutenant governor. I guess i don't follow in- state politics that much.

I suppose it calls into question his judgment.  For example, think back to the Secret Service hooker scandal. It wasn't even that they were dumb enough to get hookers, it was that they were dumb enough to not pay the hookers and therefore lose contain on the story.

A guy who isn't smart enough, or honest enough, to get a burner phone if he just HAS to make thousands of late-night phone calls shouldn't be in charge of squat, just on principle.

yeah but so what? have him cough up a couple of dollars if the usage ran up the bill and otherwise let it go. it was between him and his wife and apparently she didn't like it.

now if he was one of those "family values" assholes flog him in the streets. and the governor too for letting this happen.

seriously this Lt Governor thing is the best gig he has had. why give it up? take a page from mark sanford's play book. tough it out then run for congress.

Maybe he wants to leave the public eye before it gets worse. He was averaging multiple calls per night. That stupid combined with poor impulse control and God knows what this dipsh*t got up to.

In any case the press was doing its duty informing the public and he left voluntarily.
Optimal performance of our system as far as I'm concerned.

The use of cell phone technology is confusing to people that can't grasp concepts past 1953.

Is it still possible to get an anonymous cell phone (aka a 'burner' phone) or have they locked that down now?

I love how that's gone from "What difference at this point does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again" to "What difference does it make" to now "The facts don't matter".  You'd think after the whole "You didn't build that" thing didn't work out for them, they'd stop misquoting the opposition.  But, here we are.

depends on the state.

its not anonymous if you use a credit card to buy it, of course.

It's certainly possible to get a private phone whose records are no one's business but your own.
