What I don't get is he said he doesn't believe in gay people.  Gay people exist, they're not like leprechauns or the Easter Bunny.  You can't stay you don't believe in something that we can prove exists.  That's like saying you don't believe in gravity or something.

Other than being slightly crass how is anything he said worthy of discipline? Assuming he was just conversing, isn't he entitled to express an opinion provided it's not deeply offensive or compels his students into agreeing with him? This would seem to merit an admonishment from his supervisor but not suspension or termination.

You don't think teachers ever mocked political leaders or the spouses of politicians before?

And if the guy doesn't like homosexuals that would seem to be his business provided he's not assaulting one.
