(BBC)   Don't want anyone parking next to my Mercedes, so I'll just move this barrier and park safely inside the worksite. Surely the crew will tow my car to another safe area before beginning the resurface work   (bbc.co.uk) divider line 18

When you take the extra time to move barriers and place yourself in a work zone, expect that other people will take the extra time to show you what a cunning stunt of a move it was.  The car's owner went above and beyond with their self-righteous asshattery; could the workers do any less and go home with their pride intact?

OscarTamerz: Does anybody actually think some Benz owner is going to leave his car where it's going to get tar on it except for the douchebag bird cage lining writer? It's a parking lot and he parked there long before the cordon went up and he'll have the parking stub to prove it as well as surveillance footage. The asshats at the paving company and the train company will be splitting the costs of a new paint job, new rims and "tyres" and if he plays his cards right an empty suit bureaucrat or 2 will get shiatcanned like a tuna.

I want to give you a hat tip regardless of how thin your line ended up, this could have been good but sadly it wasn't near the top of the posts.  You should consider TotalFark, its much easier to throw an aggravating post into the mix and get the attention it deserves before the riff-raff show up with their witty bullshiat.

edmo: Somebody will troll here eventually about how lazy those union workers are for not pushing it off to the side and finishing the whole lot.

No, see, this is how the British are.

They're either too polite to do anything about it - "Oh, some chap's parked his car here.  Well, we'll just work around it until he comes back for it.  I say, what about building him a ramp so he can move it without damage?"

Or they're prevented by a weird sense of embarrassment from acknowledging such a grievous breach of etiquette - "car? didn't see it, mate. *ahem*.  Just turned up, did my job, and went 'ome, me".

Where in America, they would either:
A) Call a tow truck and not do anything until it got there
B) Stand around until a supervisor came to call a tow truck, because union rules, or
C) Shove it off the lot with the backhoe and cover it in tar for good measure

Aulus: The two times I was in Rome in the early Seventies, I noticed a lot of drivers would park on the sidewalks, especially near the fora.  One day I witnessed one get removed from a sidewalk on the Via Cavour.  They brought in a flat bed truck with  a crane, placed four hooks by each wheelwell and lifted it up onto the truck.  The Italian grad student I was with told me they trucked them out of town, about halfway to Tivoli to a lot where the office was open oly for half an hour a day and it cost something like $200 to get your car out.

I took a photo of the lift, when I'm home from work, I'll see if I can find it on my computer and post it.

I still don't understand why the re-pavers didn't just call a truck to have the vehicle towed.

Because they were bored and one of the workers was a smartass and the foreman liked the cut of his jib.

Satanic_Hamster: Was doing a job in New Jersey years back and a car was blocking one of the entrances to the tunnel we were working on.   While this wasn't the only entrance / access point to the tunnel, it was the only one were we could pour concrete down and we had to schedule shutdowns / no parkings on that road two weeks in advance.  Locals were notified, signs put up, etc.

Normally the cops would be real quick to tow cars for us but that day there were some problems else where in the city so the cop told us; "Listen, I know you have to get this car moved so you can start, but it's going to be two hours.  I'm going to go around the block to get some coffee and it's gone by the time I get back I won't ask questions."

We moved it with a CAT 980 front end loader w/ forks on it.

hopefully the forks went through the door instead of under.

I used to work on a main artery road in a central business district. There was on-street parking allowed up until 4:00pm, when all lanes on the road were needed for rush hour.

Nothing was more satisfying than to see the tow truck drivers hooking up the Beemers and Benzes while their self-important stuffed-suit asshat owners tried to bargain them into letting them go.

Don;t feel so important now, do you mister CEO/Stockbroker/Board Member, do you?

ecmoRandomNumbers: Fear_and_Loathing: They could have had it towed. I hope they at least had it booted.

And then put it on a ship to Denmark.

I like the cut of your jib.
