Why leave a ramp? Dig deep around, so that it is an undercarriage-scraping drop down. Then ticket the car every day that it is not moved.

Parking spaces are at a premium in my neighborhood. I would happily pay the few hundred bucks to have my windows replaced -- in the rare scenario where firefighters need access to the hydrant I'm parked in front of -- if it meant a number of new legal parking spaces become available.

I still don't understand why the re-pavers didn't just call a truck to have the vehicle towed. Oh, right, because taking extra time to excavate around the vehicle, and then go back and finish the job after it's moved, means they can get overtime pay.

I used to work on a main artery road in a central business district. There was on-street parking allowed up until 4:00pm, when all lanes on the road were needed for rush hour.

Nothing was more satisfying than to see the tow truck drivers hooking up the Beemers and Benzes while their self-important stuffed-suit asshat owners tried to bargain them into letting them go.

Not in Scotland, it's illegal to clamp cars - and it wouldn't have solved the problem anyway. Best they would be able to do was get it towed, but why bother holding up work for the length of time it took to get a tow truck, better to just embarrass and inconvenience the entitled coont that left it there.

/I live in Edinburgh, and yes, I have had my car towed. They made a mistake though and brought it back. Which was nice.

Many of the streets around my office are like that; I can look out my office window and am basically looking down the length of one. (Sadly this is no longer true as of a couple weeks ago because of a new building blocking the view.) Everything is signed very well (the parking signs in these areas have a red border and say "TOW AWAY ZONE"), and of course the restrictions and consequences make perfect sense.

For a long time I wondered why I would always see flashing lights along it around 4pm. Finally I put two and two together; the flashing lights were, of course, the tow trucks. Once I figured that out I was always amazed how many cars they got. I sort of wonder if it was the same people over and over again or different people.

The car's owner went above and beyond with their self-righteous asshattery; could the workers do any less and go home with their pride intact?

I stand corrected, not being from those parts. I found the whole situation very amusing. I assumed when they left a ramp and said something to the effect of "They can come see use to get it back that is was immobile for some reason.

I used to work across the street from the shipyards, when they blocked off a lot for repaving and someone illegally parked there anyway they would use a giant forklift to pick the car up and move it to a secure lot where ya had to produce proof of ownership to get it back, since most people keep their registration in the glove box, and they wouldn't let you near the car without proof it was yours....

Was doing a job in New Jersey years back and a car was blocking one of the entrances to the tunnel we were working on. While this wasn't the only entrance / access point to the tunnel, it was the only one were we could pour concrete down and we had to schedule shutdowns / no parkings on that road two weeks in advance. Locals were notified, signs put up, etc.

Normally the cops would be real quick to tow cars for us but that day there were some problems else where in the city so the cop told us; "Listen, I know you have to get this car moved so you can start, but it's going to be two hours. I'm going to go around the block to get some coffee and it's gone by the time I get back I won't ask questions."

We moved it with a CAT 980 front end loader w/ forks on it.

Or just waited until things were done, and "Accidentally" leaving the end of the hose inside the car when you're walking out the hose to drain it. Saves the hassle and expense of having a Storz connector replaced.

I say just drag the car around the lot, till the tires have flat spots. Then move it to another spot, finish the job, or at least that area, then get a flatbed to move it back to its original spot.

Based on the picture, the ramp looks sufficiently short that at the very least the underside of the front bumper (and likely the rear) will drag; as a gentle reminder to the owner when he goes to pick the car up.

The two times I was in Rome in the early Seventies, I noticed a lot of drivers would park on the sidewalks, especially near the fora. One day I witnessed one get removed from a sidewalk on the Via Cavour. They brought in a flat bed truck with a crane, placed four hooks by each wheelwell and lifted it up onto the truck. The Italian grad student I was with told me they trucked them out of town, about halfway to Tivoli to a lot where the office was open oly for half an hour a day and it cost something like $200 to get your car out.

I took a photo of the lift, when I'm home from work, I'll see if I can find it on my computer and post it.

The owner is lucky that's all they did. The next street down from my house was being resurfaced. The council put signs up on all lamp posts, fences etc. 2 weeks beforehand saying that parking would be suspended between these dates/times. Explained why and everything (which they don't always do). Some arse parked his BMW on the road after they had started work, came back to find it 'accidentally' heavily spattered with tar. Somehow the tar laying machine managed to throw hot tar up on top of the roof and all over the windscreen. The guy complained, council told him to GTFO, guy's insurance company told him to GTFO, guy sued the council, judge told him to GTFO.

Does anybody actually think some Benz owner is going to leave his car where it's going to get tar on it except for the douchebag bird cage lining writer? It's a parking lot and he parked there long before the cordon went up and he'll have the parking stub to prove it as well as surveillance footage. The asshats at the paving company and the train company will be splitting the costs of a new paint job, new rims and "tyres" and if he plays his cards right an empty suit bureaucrat or 2 will get shiatcanned like a tuna.
