Came here to say.. yada yada yada

Their are no foreign cars anymore to a large extent. Only foreign car companies. Kia's are built in Georgia (USA) Honda's in Indiana, Nissan's in Tennessee. They all buy their parts from the same suppliers as well, I work for an OEM supplier. We build parts in the USA,  for every 'foreign' make you can think of as well as the big three.

I can remember back in 1979 I bought a Datsun 510.  It was a great car.  One day my father and mother borrowed it to go visit a relative in Dundalk Maryland.  When they arrived a man living on the street approached and told them that if they didn't get their "Jap junk" off his street he would burn it while they were in the house.  He went on a tirade about how Americans buying foriegn made products were putting people out of work.

He was crazy but he was right.

I once got crap from a girl for driving a Foreign car made in the USA... She drove a Ford made in Canada....  I tried to tell her I support the auto workers and not the CEOs....

//she was ugly so I really didn't care about pissing her off.
//She was from Flint MI....

Reminds me of when I was a wee youngin'. At the local county fair you could buy a ticket and receive a sledgehammer in which you could go apeshiat on a Japanese car. Don't remember if it was a Toyota or Honda or whatever, didn't matter. The point was you could beat the crap out of the damn Nip car in the defense of superior American cars or something.

I usually call them Albertans.

jaytkay: And they have teabaggers?

And Truthers... and Paulites... and anti-vaxxers. Canada also probably has a few Birthers but I've never seen them out and about. The Truthers and Paulites though, they love to make signs and parade around while everybody else ignores them or at most giggles in their general direction.

No, it was actually George Romney's son and his ilk that killed American manufacturing. The foreign badges were the ones that brought manufacturing jobs BACK to America.

With all of the overseas manufacturing Ford/GM/Chrysler do I'm betting that the foreign badges probably employ more American auto workers in their assembly plants and supply chain than the American badges these days. Does anyone have the hard numbers? I'm curious what the employment stats look like.

No, he was wrong. His anger should have been directed toward the Big Three who made the most craptastic, fall-apart cars you've ever seen in the 70s and 80s. Back then, it was a miracle if anything American made it past 100,000 miles. Toyota, Datsun, and Honda changed the game, and we're all better off as a result.

The 70s oil crisis, seriously.  American cars were badass until the oil embargo and American manufacturers were forced to try and produce fuel efficient cars.  They were obviously terrible at it for a long time.

Whoever left the note is a dumbass. It's funny though, that I can't seem to find any SunNews coverage of the systemic disrespect, harassment, and various scandals that have plagued the Veterans Review and Appeals Board. Oh wait, that's probably because that would have made the Conservatives look bad, and SunNews can't have that.

Exactly.  The only "Canadian" passenger vehicle companies are American and Japanese companies with "Canada" tacked onto the name.

What exactly IS a "foreign car" these days? Corporations these days are multinational and have the best of both worlds. They enjoy the protection of their host country's laws and tax codes while outsourcing their production to countries that pay almost no wages.
