You could put up signs and stops at every intersection, and some of these Northwest born or recent arrival drivers would still find a way to screw it up. Four way stop go, no you go, no you go guy.

That drives me nuts, especially since I have to go through two very busy 4 way stops on my way to work in the non-Canadian Vancouver. I'm beginning to be a believer in roundabouts.

Honestly with Vancover's population breakdown I'm kind of surprised there aren't more stories like this.

/yes, I just took a side swipe at *ese drivers

She needs someone on staff who can interpret traffic signals for passing drivers. Someone who speaks Bacci.

And yeah, Granville is just nasty. The area from 16th to Broadway is a seething, stupid mass of pedestrians, traffic, and stoplights everywhere with no left turn signals. Take Hemlock (or Burrard or Cambie) to go downtown, and Fir street to come back. Never go down Granville.

A t-intersection I could understand, but a standard four way intersection?  Still if drivers persist in driving poorly at this corner then concrete barriers are called for.

"I've approached the city to see if we could put something up here to protect the building, but I've been told that city property cannot be used to protect private property," she said.

Now, about those property taxes you owe us.....

Man, I hate those.  I'm half a block away when they come to a stop and they sit there until I arrive then wave me through.  For fark's sake, if you'd gone when it was your turn we'd both be on our way faster!  The trials and tribulations of living around overly polite people.

There's a home in Des Moines, on the near west side, where 39th Street makes a T intersection with Forest Avenue, the street the home is on.  The home's front door is right in line with 39th as you head north.  I understand they have had multiple cars end up in their yard, taking out trees and sometimes hitting the house.  You can find it on Google maps.

Must suck living there.

There's a bar in a small town outside of Ottawa that's notorious for people plowing head on into the side of it to commit suicide (long straight road leading up to it)... imagine having that stigma on your place.

We have a grocery store in town that has had this happen at least 7 times in the last 25 years. Uphill drive over parking blocks to do it, yet somehow they still seem to manage it. They even built a giant brick entryway as a safety net, but it didn't stop the last person either

There used to be a Firestone store in downtown Des Moines that was on an intersection. Cars used to routinely crash and end up on their lot, but only hit the building once. That one time was when guy had a heart attack and hit the corner of the showroom, crashing through the plate glass windows and making a real mess.

His insurance company, Employers Mutual refused to pay, stating he had no history of heart problems, so it was "an act of God" and not covered. They stuck by their guns and Firestone ate the cost ot repairs, figuring it would cost about as much to litigate.

Absolutely nothing makes me rage like the four way stop wave through. I've been known to throw out a c- word with the kids in the car when I get a patronizing wave through.

12th and Granville is a big, busy intersection, and Vancouver is chock full of people in $60,000-$100,000+ suv's who cannot drive.

I like the comments about putting up a red light camera to solve the problem as after a couple of tickets people will stop speeding.

Yeah it is like all the speeders get together and talk about their tickets.  As another commenter said, you'll get green lights on Granville on all the other cross streets except this one so people speed to get through it.  Even a Canadian public official could figure out that one.

10 times? serious the city should have done something long ago to stop it obviously it is a traffic control issue.

In our town, we have a 4-way stop at the crossing of two divided arterials, with a LARGE planting in the middle so's ya can't see across it. It's the beach access road, so all the tourists come there to wait for the other guy. I was real relieved when they replaced the other 4-way in town with a roundabout.

/All the hand-wringing was for naught, as it works just fine...mostly

I drive by that store every day to/from work.  Its one of those places that offers only the most exclusive and expensive stuff to people with more money than brains.

This is probably the only way they can be forced to keep in touch with the commoners.

That sounds like a really stupid way to commit suicide especially with the safety features of modern cars.

What's the success rate?

And what's the just ended up crippled for life rate?

This is a major route between Richmond and downtown, so... yup.
