With the Ravens in the Super Bowl, I fully expect mysterious stabbing murders to increase this year.

Well if I get abused on Sunday, according to the 49ers it will get better for me, unless I'm a pillow biting, pole smoking San Francisco bear lover.

The only violence I want to see is towards the CBS and NFL people that shoehorn all the worthless extra stuff into the pregame. Just take 30 minutes, tell us what to look for in the game, AND THEN PLAY IT. I have less than zero need to hear celebrity interviews, talentless hacks playing God Bless America, a national anthem that takes more than two minutes because the producer and singer wouldn't recognize 3/4 time if their lives depended on it, hype over commercials that are completely lame because we've seen both way better and more shocking on Youtube, or the 6000th reference to the coaches being brothers. You have just about ruined the game for people in pursuit of the same mouth-breathers that dictate the shiatty Olympics coverage.

The conference championships are better football to watch at this point.

This literally, literally makes me want to go beat someone. I'm just SO ANGRY. I think I'm going to go home and hit my wife!

Wait. I don't have one anymore. THANK GAAAAWWWDD.

This urban myth is so pervasive that my roomate's professor in a domestic violence counseling class was saying it last year.  I gave my roomate the history of this myth, and she showed the information to the professor.  He backed down, but the rest of the class actually booed her.  However, it is a kind of hick school, so take it with a grain of salt.

Joe Queenan in True Believers created a pretty good breakdown of just how much bullshiat sports fans have to wade through just to watch a game. He counts how many times he's listened to the national anthem and various crappy half-time shows, etc.

It's good to pretend that myths are true, because of the awareness it raises about other myths that also aren't true.

I genuinly think the recommendation that OB-GYNs asking their patients about the patient's partner sabotaging their birth control will prevent more domestic violence.

It's also a myth that there is a gun violence epidemic as well, does that mean we are entitled to ignore the problem?

So what's next?  Illegal immigrant crackdowns on Cinco De Mayo.  I mean, of course just because somebody is proud of their Mexican Heritage doesn't make them an illegal, but it raises awareness.  Deadbeat dad roundups during Father's Day?  Sure, mothers and fathers are equally likely to be in non-compliance with child support orders, but we're raising awareness so it's okey-dokey (wait, that does happen).

Damn it. We all need to work a little harder this weekend, guys. Put your foot in a b*tch's ass every time you see a Budweiser commercial. Slap a ho every time you see a Volkswagen ad. Rape when you see Beyonce. Knee to the solar plexus when you see a commercial with a dog or puppy in it. Cigarette coal to the back when you see a Clydesdale. Purple nurple whenever there's a turnover. Yank out a handful of hair whenever your beer runs dry.
It's a slippery slope--you start letting them get away with crap and you'll never get them back in their place.

If a myth is not true yet people believe in the myth does it not make the myth true?

If truth is based on belief and the belief is to believe in the myth then does that not make the myth true?

If I believe that Shakira, Adrianna Lima, and Lindsey Vonn, want to have sex with me at the same time does that not make it true in my mind?

If I was riding a unicorn, eating chicken wings that are called Buffalo wings while watching the super bowl and a woman knocked me off of the unicorn would I be violent?

This post has no purpose.

I am riding a porpoise in the south Pacific.

I hope the Ravens win because Ravens can say nevermore.

The rape culture thing is also BS. Incidents per year are 29 per 100,000 per the FBI. Hardly close to the 1/4 number that is spouted off as truth.

One study (Mary Koss) had 75% of respondents unaware of the fact that the were "raped." Nearly 50% of the respondents had future sexual encounters with their "rapists." Self-fulfilling studies hardly do science and society a service.

it makes sense there would be some violence on supper ball sunday. the larger your party the more poseurs are there pretending so they can fit in, acting like they enjoy and care about the sport so they can join in on your reindeer games. conformists gladly following the idiot herd for fear of being alone, left out, not all sorts of manly, lacking of team spirit. it builds a rage and frustration over the years which sometimes spills over like cheap beer in a drunks glass. you chicken wing sucking tossers make me sick.

Textbook feminist shaming tactic used instead of engaging in actual debate.

As with AIDS and breast cancer, everyone with a functional IQ is aware that domestic violence is a problem. I'm immediately suspicious of any campaign that "raises awareness" of anything -- I think they're collecting money first and considering the problem second.

Apparently, only if the majority of the victims are 'of color' or of minority persuasion. When it's a bunch of white children or a politician, then it gets front page 24/7 coverage.

/ Report just the facts and an agenda may not be as easy to slip by the citizenry.

Nope. Collect money first. Give large percentage of money to couple of people "running" the campaign. Rest of money goes to next campaign to bring in money. Wash, rinse, repeat. Awareness campaigns are bigger scams than organized religion, but only by a hair.

feminism is the idea that women have should have the same political, educational, and career opportunities as men,

When some useless  doucehbag cant even get over the fact that domestic violence is bad, it gets people upset.

I wonder if this the underlying reason behind the failed GOP filibuster of the Violence Against Women Act?

Seriously, as noted, pretty much everyone knows domestic violence is bad. If a group has to lie and use a myth to "spread awareness" of a topic, they are making it worse, not better.

Mr. Smarty pants most of the year, Mr. Smarty Kilt on occasion. And men worried about baldness are as irrational as organized religion, so the hair is appropriately missing.
