Ah, BBC America. Looks like MLP will have to wait for On Demand.

Anyone looking to be weaned of Goodell Flagball should check out rugby.

Yet more weeks where I have to read and hear about how the Welsh are the best side in the Northern Hemisphere and this loss is just a blip.

This will be won by the team that wins the France/England match. The Welsh pack gets pushed back too much and the backs look pretty going sideways but have the cutting edge of a brick. The Irish are in transition with their best players getting very old but will be the banana skin. The Scots just can't get 15 great plowers on the pitch and will be my choice for the wooden spoon. The Italians need to be able to play for the last 20 minutes and if they can do that they will push everyone close and could beat Scotland and Wales. The French have lost some style and exchanged it for consistancy and the English have the belief and ability of beating the All Blacks.

All in all good fun.

Last game I went to was 5 years ago - France knocking at least four or five shades out of Scotland at Murrayfield. Not as good as England doing it, but not bad.

I've only watched a bit of rugby, but I caught on to this right away. They do love the game so, and they're certainly no good at cricket or football or curling or anything.

Saw them get whipped by some bad-ass Samoans not too long ago.

Holy crap, when did Fios add BBC America in HD? I can actually watch some of this.

/for all I know, I've had the channel for years

Allied with them crowing that every England loss is a symptom of the decline and will be the first of many, the attitude of quite a few Welsh supporters is pretty boring.  That's not to say that they're all like it but the ones who are go all-in.  The best part about Wales losing is listening to that whiny little biatch Jiffy and that cretinous twat Eddie Butler.  They're two of the most biased commentators in rugby and I can't stand either of them.  It's a toss-up for most loathesome Welshman between those two and Mike Phillips.  What a colossal cock that guy is.

I agree with most of this and yes, Wales' backs look dull but to be fair, any back line would after Shane Williams' retirement, but North and Halfpenny are really good players, as is Jonathan Davies (the other one).  Jamie Roberts is not so much like a brick, he's more like a 70s tower block with a cinderblock head but should a defence lose their discipline and let him suck players in then North, Cuthbertson and Halfpenny have the pace and strength to exploit those gaps.  I do think Warburton is a very classy player.  He's no McCaw but he's a good leader and he's a true gent.

I hope we get a vintage campaign out of BOD.  To have watched his career has been a pleasure and he'll be missed when he retires - I don't think that's going to be very soon but it's coming - and having said that he scores a try!

Either that or Wales really sucks

Its a bit of both. Wales lost every game of the autumn internationals including Samoa and a very improved Argintena.

HA!

I've been a fan of SANZAR rugby for about 10 years now and am just coming on board with the European teams in the past year or so (since I found First Row). Really like the play...they seem to have a little more grit than the Southern Hemisphere players.

There was a moment right at the end there that personifies rugby.  Tipuric (what a fine Welsh name!) and O'Callahan were right in each others faces, hands full of shirt and looking like handbags are imminent then the whistle went and Tipuric's first reaction was to stick his hand out to shake hands!

That's one thing that I really like about rugby. While play is on, it's mud and blood but in the end everyone is a gentleman.

Time for England v Scotland!

I havent watched an NFL game in awhile. I usually read with the sound low, waiting for real action. Which as an eagles fan, means i read a lot. This is my first time watching a rugby game. I'm not sure of the rules, but its been fun to watch so far

It's very easy to get the hang of and I like it a lot more than gridiron, which I like as well. I would love to see it gather more of a following in the States. Perhaps a big name test held in the US* would help...kind of like how the NFL will play a game or two overseas.

*NZ/SA would be one that I would travel just about anywhere in the US to see

And daaaaaamn! Owen Farrell has as good a toe as Jonny Wilkinson ever had

England vs Scotland is always more of a blood and thunder game than a pretty one. The northern hemisphere teams (England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Italy)  tend to play a more physical game while the southern hemisphere teams (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia) tend to play a more running game. Argentina tend to play a more Northern game even though they now play with the South.

The two most complicated areas are the scrum and the tackle area. The BBC comentators have done a good job on the scrum so its just the tackle area. The short of it is that the tackled must let go of the ball, joiners must stay on their feet and the other players must come from the back of the ruck. Most penalties are from the tackled person not letting go (to try and stop his team from loosing it) or people flopping on the ball to slow it down/keep the ball.

From the Beeb text feed:  Beattie shows cast iron cojones as he goes on a chunter but the ball is eventually knocked on by Denton, chance gone. Scotland get a good shove on but England hang on. Scratch that, Scotland win a put-in. Courtney Lawes on for Joe Launchbury, Stuart Lancaster has got plenty of trump cards up his sleeve...

See? Clear as daylight.

I think that Norfolking Chance's description was pretty spot on. The guys down south do play a pretty wide open game.

Jesus can't play rubgy cause he wears illegal head gear

Jesus can't play rugby cause he never really existed

Italy vs France is a damn good game. The Italians are pushing the French hard and are currently in the lead.

Jesus can't play rugby 'cause his sandals don't have studs
Jesus can't play rugby 'cause the ball goes through his hands

The only game I managed to catch was Italy vs. France on TV5, so it was en Francais.  No matter, it was a great game with a thrilling finish.

Rugby is underway in the Southern Hemisphere too, with the Super 15 competition.
But, rugby is not about the TV or the fans. Rugby is about getting the ball in your hand and having a run.
So, for those of you under 60, with all your own limbs...
Find a team to join.
