Would you even be able to secure insurance for something like that?

Even if the insurance premiums were like 50k a month, the insurer is taking a huge gamble that anyone who is stupid eccentric enough to pay that much is going to show good judgement while driving it.

I know that anyone who could afford to buy one could probably declare it "self insured", however, the law doesn't allow for you to drive around without insurance.

No. Unlike those other 6 people, I'd rather just keep my dignity and drive something decent.

If you're that wealthy, your family and friends have already been driving those cars for a few years, and they're bored with them. Chances are they wouldn't be caught dead in anything that pedestrian anyway.

Unless you've ever personally encountered and spoken with some of these people, you have no idea how jaded their wealth makes them. They wouldn't bat an eye at a few million for something that nobody else had- that's why they're buying it, not for the looks, performance, interior, anything. I have little doubt that all 7 examples will have less than a few thousand miles clocked, between all 7 of them.

Would you or I kill just to have a chance at some seat time in a Veyron? Probably. Would oil royalty be willing to be seen in anything other than a 1-of-very very few special edition one? Probably not. We're talking an extra half million to million dollars for some badging and paint.

When you're rich enough to afford cars like these, you insure it yourself. But to your point about commercial insurance, it's not a huge gamble because it's the insurance company's business to know what the actuary tables say is the increased likelihood of a crash, random fire, or vandalism, and set the price point for the premiums accordingly. They might lose money on this car on a single policy, but in the aggregate across all their clients, they don't. The house always wins.

Also, the market for cars like these is pretty limited and so is the insurance market.  The person who buys this super car is probably already a client with a policy for many other super cars. The point is that the insurance company already knows that particular client's propensity for making claims on super cars. Also, when a super or exotic car is totaled, the undamaged parts are very valuable in the resale market.  Know what the value of a Ferrari 308 turn signal wand is? Between 1k to 3k.

A Bugatti Veyron Super Sport goes for about 2.5 million.  They are backed by a real company that has made actual cars before.

Besides, does 7 of them make it a 'production' car?

In some states you can put up a bond with the state in lieu of insurance.  IIRC it was only $25,000 in one state where I used to live.  If you can afford the car, you can afford to put up a $25K bond with the state.

No insurance necessary, however if you're that rich and hurt someone have fun with the lawsuits.

I have no idea how many Ferrari 308s there are out there, but I bet it's a lot more than 7.  In fact, I've probably seen more than 7 just driving around various cities I've lived in.

So don't insure it for loss/damage (comprehensive/collision) but put liability on it.  Costs are still way cheaper.  The state doesn't require you to carry enough insurance to fix your own car, only enough to pay the medical bills of anyone you run into.

You do realize that the number of cylinders has little to no impact on performance, right?

Displacement, peak RPM, compression ratio, boost pressure, ignition timing, valve and manifold design....these are the things that matter. The number of cylinders is basically about cost, harmonics, and weight distribution.

750hp and 0-60 in 2.8 seconds, and you say it's underpowered because of the cylinder count?

a perfect example of how those in the Middle East have more money than brains and originality. Diamonds in the headlights? really? The reason theres only seven being made is more than likely their market is so small. Like theres widespread wealth in the Arab world.  Its being touted as an Arabian car so Arabs will buy it. Who wants to buy a $4m dollar car from someone who's only built 7 cars?
I bet anyone who is not an Arab and can afford to buy a $4m car will not be buying this.
