"The RAF still carries out communication work for aircraft on a small part of the site. This would remain, alongside the RAF Air Defence Radar Museum, which was established on the air base 14 years ago."

So this is like buying a house for £2.5 million, but the former owners get to still live in the master bedroom.
Fark that!  Let me know when it's available free-and-clear.

Has the lease expired, and it's free?

The documentation was lost in the floods of 1967.

I was going to say the same thing.  Let's pool our money and get it going.

Is the new owner responsible for cleaning up any possible hazardous material or spills on the property or does the buyer get limited liability?  You never know what might be on a old military site, after all.

Still, might be a neat place for an amateur radio site.

They're keeping a radar installation and aircraft communications on the premises, so as long as interference isn't a factor, no problem.  I imagine it would be like operating next to an airport without all the noise.

On the plus side, it'd be nice if they hadn't bothered dropping any antenna towers before they moved out.  Military-grade hardware FTW.

RAF base without the ability to handle aircraft?

Pass. If I can't fly my Spit or 'Cane in and out, I'll just throw a strip on my plot next to my ND silo base. And buy a Mustang instead.
