Jonah Goldberg

Is he still taken seriously? I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

2013-02-01 11:12:40 AM
Yeah, incompetent candidates and useless, if not actually destructive, policy played no role.

Not understanding what folks are actually interested in, or what they need IS part of the problem. The difficulty is that this is one of the folks who have led the charge to denigrate and dismiss the nation at large, and complained bitterly that the bulk of that populace simply isn't equipped to understand what they need is making the argument.

A return to rational Conservatism IS in order. Far thinking, long lasting, stability, that reinforces the nation as a whole. The difficulty is that Goldberg has fought against rational Conservatism for most of his career. Facts, sane economic policy, sane foreign policy, sane spending, and a realization that the world is changing, are things that this man has rejected, and even called Un-American at various times, all the while decrying anyone who might disagree with him, and demonizing them, while selling his services as an excuse train to be cited as an "expert" when justifications were in order for asinine policy that cut against the very grain of sane, Conservative policy, and led the charge to radicalize the party, and then deny that they were doing any such thing.

Jonah is exactly what is wrong with the party, and the national discourse.

FTFA: "This last one is definitely true when you compare who voted in 2010 and who voted in 2012. The 2010 electorate was older and whiter. The Obama coalition of 2012 included younger voters, minorities, and so-called "low-information voters."

No matter the merits of these observations, they don't fully explain why Republicans are doing so well on the policy front. In states as diverse as Wisconsin, Indiana, Ohio, Nebraska, Michigan, New Jersey, Texas, and a half-dozen others, Republicans have been implementing impressive - even miraculous - reforms."

Yes it does, in 2010 the electorate was far more conservative (read: older, white, male) and they took the State Houses and Senates during a redistricting year, making it easier for them to maintain control, and they also pulled a massive bait-and-switch, promising to focus solely on jobs, and then deciding to instead gut unions and pass anti-abortion bills, neither of which were mentioned during the campaigns. So by lying, misleading, and rigging the game, Conservatives have managed to cling to power for a little bit longer. Congratulations.

Nah. It's still Obama's fault.

They know about culture.

Guns, pork rinds, NASCAR, WWE, country music, linear-family-tree creation, blue collaring, mud flap titties, truck nuts, camoflauging, chaw-chewing, meth manufacturing, bolo-wearing.... I could go on forever.

Point is.. Republicans KNOW culture.

The challenge for Republicans is to convince the American people that the government isn't magic, and that all of its money is your money, its debts your debts.

What a load of horse shiat.

"Deficits don't matter" -at least while conservatives are in power. Issues spontaneously appear when anyone else holds the reigns.

you're saying our only hope is if the Democrats take back the House from the Birchers, then.

After Liberal Fascism, I am unable to take anything he says seriously.  He's a minor sideshow act, loudly grunting off to the side somewhere as you crane your neck to see inside the tent where the real derperformers are entertaining.

Democrats have an ethos.  The problem is that they don't all have the same ethos, it's a coalition built around many views.

Gotta say though "thumbless grip on the culture" is right up there as a great quote. That should be brought back to haunt this hack for years.

Yes, it's Hollywood, the media and academia with the irrational animosity.

"In 2010, the GOP had its best performance in congressional races since 1938."

And promptly demonstrated to America its governing prowess, resulting in the 2012 election results.

I thought it was because they are totalitarian money-grubbing religious zealots motivated by greed and a desire to control everyone.

Of course they don't have any grasp of culture. They want to destroy culture and impose their version of how they think the world should work.

Who says they're "blurring their message?"

It's pretty clear to me that they hate real people, and they hate them even more when they demand social justice.

They're holdovers from the 19th Century.

Thumbs are a product of evolution, which has been disproven.  Therefore Republicans don't have thumbs, because they aren't evolutionistas.  If Republicans had thumbs, they would refuse to use them, because liberals are wrong.
